Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter with my great interest to know about the job from an advertisement. I am very delighted to know about the job because the first thing i am looking for such jobs from past few months.First of all I love children and expert in dealing with the problems of small children.Secondly as I am in Australia and the cost of living is very high here. So it would be a convenient job for me to solve my problem as well.

I think i will be a suitable person for this job because I already have nursery courses and tainings in chlidcare habbits. Additionally I have worked In Europe with firm as an child safety person for two years.

Moreover, I want to add that i am recently working online with a child safety company online to trained other nurses for such jobs.

I would by delighted to get this job and looking forward to hear from you to discuss further settlements.

Your's Sincerely,

Umaima Kamran

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You address the reasons for wanting the job and give relevant childcare experience, including nursery training and two years working in child safety. However, the response only partially fulfils the task: it does not explain how you would spend your free time in Australia, and the reason that living costs are high focuses on your financial need rather than why you want this particular role. Your suitability is also asserted more than developed; for example, you could describe a specific responsibility or skill gained from your previous work. The closing asks to discuss arrangements, but the letter does not clearly establish your interest in caring for this family’s six-year-old. Covering all three requested points with more specific support would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The letter has a recognisable structure, with an opening, paragraphs about your motivation and experience, and a closing. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all,” “Secondly,” and “Moreover” help signal the order of points. However, the progression is not fully clear: the discussion moves from liking children to the cost of living, then to qualifications, without a distinct paragraph for your free-time plans. Some linking is mechanical, and the final sentence combines interest and a request to hear back without a smooth, complete expression. Organise the letter around the three task points, using one focused paragraph for each, and connect ideas through their meaning rather than relying mainly on numbered transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “childcare,” “child safety,” “nursery courses,” and “convenient.” This gives the reader a basic understanding of your experience and motivation. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “childcare habbits,” “an child safety person,” and “further settlements.” Spelling errors including “tainings” and “chlidcare” also make the writing less polished. Aim for precise, natural phrases used in employment letters, such as “childcare training,” “child-safety officer,” and “discuss the arrangements.” Proofreading spelling and choosing standard collocations would make your experience clearer and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, for example, “I think i will be a suitable person for this job because…” and “Additionally I have worked…” The main ideas are generally understandable, but errors occur frequently in sentence construction and verb forms. Examples include “I am writing this letter with my great interest to know,” “I love children and expert,” and “looking forward to hear from you”; these need more accurate patterns, such as “I am writing to express my interest,” “I love children and am experienced,” and “I look forward to hearing from you.” Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, including lowercase “i” and missing spaces after full stops. Practise complete clauses, articles, and verb patterns, then proofread each sentence.
