Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing in response to the latest advertisement, which I have came across through a local newspaper in which you have advertised for a temporary helper to look after your daughter.
I really appreciate this job as it is quite challenging to handle a child along with other tasks. Working with children helps to learn a lot of things and it reveals new talents with each day. Additionally, It would help me to learn patience because which is essential to deal with child's tanturms.
I believe that, I would be a suitable option for this vacancy as I have a three years of working experience in day-care centre in my city. I am well aware of the tasks and responsibilities which are necesary to perform while taking care of a toddler. I would be available to help her in academics and practical skills such as problem solving and managing budget which would help her in the future.
I would like you inform you that, I am planning to pursue my studies and I would prefer to take online course so that I could spend my leisure time for study. Studing in Autralia would broaden my prespective and eventually create more career opportunities. I hope you would consider me while making your final decision.
If you need futher infromation you can contact me through email.
Yours faithfully,
Alice Albert

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you explain your interest in working with a child, cite three years of day-care experience, and describe plans to study online in Australia. The experience is relevant evidence of suitability, and the letter has an appropriate opening and closing. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. Your reasons for wanting the job focus mainly on learning patience and gaining personal benefits; explain more directly why caring for this particular child and living with the family appeal to you. The free-time point is also quite narrow: studying is clear, but you could add a leisure activity or explain how you would balance study with time outside the home. Clarifying these details would make the response more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, with the interest in the role, your qualifications, and your plans in Australia presented in a sensible order. Linking expressions such as “Additionally” and “I believe” help signal the relationship between ideas, and the reader can follow the overall progression. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some features of stronger organisation. However, a few transitions feel mechanical, and some sentences contain several ideas without a clear connection—for example, the sentence about helping the child with academics, problem solving, and budget management. The final contact sentence is also abrupt. Use more natural links and make the relationship between each supporting detail explicit to create smoother progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of vocabulary relevant to childcare and employment, including “responsibilities,” “day-care centre,” “patience,” and “career opportunities.” These choices communicate the main points, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice problems reduce precision: “tanturms,” “necesary,” “Studing,” “Autralia,” “prespective,” and “futher infromation” are misspelled. Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “I really appreciate this job” and “a suitable option for this vacancy.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, particularly in the opening and when describing your motivation. This would make your vocabulary more controlled and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “the latest advertisement, which I have came across” and a purpose clause beginning “so that.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in verb forms, sentence construction, and punctuation. For example, “I have came across” should use the correct participle, and “I would like you inform you” is missing a grammatical element. The construction “because which is essential” is also faulty, while commas after phrases such as “I believe that” interrupt the sentence unnecessarily. Review verb forms and clause patterns, and check punctuation around introductory phrases. More accurate control of these structures would strengthen the letter.
