Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have came across an advertisement in article for a position of caretaker for the period of six months in Australia to your six year old. I would be glad to undertake the responsibility considering my ability to do the daily household chores and upbringing of young one's with my past experience raising three kids here in Texas.

In the last month, my younger son finally went into college to pursue further study that make me alone at home now. I love taking care of the children which gives me internal satisfaction and this will be the perfect oppurtunity to fulfill that void.

I am Forty-six years old, mother of three boys and experience working in daycare in texas for five years before our first kid. The combination of the above skills would make me an ideal candidate for the listed job.

Also, with the personality of open-minded, learner and hardworker comes handy in this type of role.

Furthermore; In free time, I would visit tourist places to unwind from the daycare duties on your weekends. That way my desire to travel to Australia will be fulfilled while making some money from the this job. I am flexible with the routine and the arrangement of my stay for your availability.

Looking forward to hear from you about the decision on my application.

Yours Truly,

Susan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three requested points: you explain your motivation through your children having left home, describe your childcare and daycare experience, and mention visiting tourist places in your free time. These details make the application relevant and give the reader a clear sense of your circumstances. The suitability point is the strongest, with specific evidence such as raising three children and working in daycare for five years. However, the reasons for wanting the job and your plans for free time are less fully developed; for example, you could explain what you hope to gain from caring for this particular child or name activities you would pursue in Australia. A more direct, consistently professional application would strengthen the response further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a recognisable structure, with separate paragraphs for your motivation, qualifications, and free-time plans, followed by an appropriate closing. The ideas are generally easy to follow, and connectors such as “Also” and “Furthermore” help signal additions. However, some links feel mechanical or unclear: “Furthermore; In free time” uses punctuation awkwardly, and “That way” does not connect smoothly to the preceding idea. The qualifications paragraph also shifts abruptly from your experience to personality traits. Use clearer transitions and make each paragraph develop one main point in a more connected sequence. The overall organisation is coherent, but cohesion and referencing are not consistently controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of relevant vocabulary, including “undertake the responsibility,” “daycare,” “ideal candidate,” and “flexible,” which helps communicate your application. There are also attempts at less common expressions, but several are inaccurate or unnatural and reduce precision: “internal satisfaction,” “fulfill that void,” “personality of open-minded,” and “comes handy” do not sound idiomatic in this context. Spelling errors such as “oppurtunity” and inconsistent capitalisation of “Texas” also affect the impression of control. Aim for natural collocations and accurate word forms rather than elaborate phrasing; for example, say that childcare is “personally rewarding” and that your qualities “would be useful in this role.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, such as “In the last month, my younger son finally went into college to pursue further study that make me alone at home now.” However, some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction make parts less clear. For example, “I have came across” should use the past participle “come,” and “that make me alone” needs a correctly formed clause, such as “which has left me at home alone.” The phrase “Looking forward to hear from you” also requires “hearing.” Punctuation is sometimes faulty, particularly “Furthermore; In free time.” Review these patterns and proofread sentence boundaries; more accurate control would make your varied structures easier to read.
