Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to apply for a job that you posted in Australian magazine. I am highly interested for the position to support your family by looking after your six-year-old child.

I am interested for this position becauseI have worked before as a child support worker in a daycare. Since, I have the experience in similar field, I believe I would be a good fit to take care your child.

I am the person who is very friendle and affable, so you family do not have to be hesitate to ask me something for your children. Besides, I have a confident that your family will love me to work with and I do not have bad habits.

I would like to visit some new places in my free time

sincerely yours

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the purpose clearly by applying for the childcare position, and you give a relevant reason: your previous work in a daycare. You also describe personal qualities and mention visiting new places in your free time. However, the task is only partially addressed: the free-time plan is very brief, and your suitability would be more convincing with specific examples of childcare duties or skills. The response also falls 12 words short of the required 150, so there is limited space to develop the points. Add detail about activities you could do with the child and how you would use your time in Australia.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter has a recognisable structure, with separate paragraphs for your application, experience, personal qualities and free-time plans. This helps the reader follow the main points. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph contains only one short idea, and the letter ends abruptly without a proper closing. Some linking is also awkward: “Since, I have the experience” does not connect the ideas smoothly, while “Besides” introduces a claim that is not clearly developed. Use a fuller final paragraph and a conventional sign-off, and connect each point with simple, accurate transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “apply for a job,” “daycare,” “experience” and “free time,” so your main meaning is generally understandable. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “interested for,” “child support worker” and “do not have bad habits.” The spelling error “friendle” also affects accuracy. These noticeable problems make parts of the letter sound unnatural. Choose more precise expressions for childcare experience and personal qualities, and check spelling and collocations before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You communicate using mostly simple sentences and attempt a few longer structures, such as “Since, I have the experience in similar field, I believe…” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to affect fluency. Examples include the missing space in “becauseI,” the incorrect construction “you family do not have to be hesitate,” and “I have a confident that.” There are also problems with articles and sentence punctuation. Practise building accurate sentences with clauses such as “Because I have worked in a daycare, I can…” and proofread for agreement, verb forms and punctuation.
