Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope you are doing well , i am writng this letter to express my interest in the poistion that you had listed in the Australian magazine.

You will be happy to know that i have all the desired qualifications and experience for this position. I do have 4 years of experience as a baby sitter and nanny in my back home and i am also very close to the childrens so that's why i like this nanny or baby care job so much.

Moreover, recently I got my Australian nanny license, and I completed all the certifications to be eligible for child care in Australia. So, in my leisure time i prefer to read some books, helps you in cooking, and sometimes I prefer to explore new hiking places.

It would be great if you gave me this opportunity to take care of your six-year-old.

Best Wishes

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address the main purpose of the letter and include relevant information for all three requested points. You explain your interest by saying you enjoy childcare and are close to children, and you mention four years of babysitting and nanny experience plus Australian childcare qualifications. You also refer to reading, cooking and hiking as ways to spend your free time. However, some points are less fully developed: the reasons you would enjoy the job are brief, and your leisure plans are not clearly connected to your time in Australia. Add a specific example of your childcare experience and explain what you hope to explore or do locally. A more complete closing would also make the application feel finished.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter follows a generally understandable order: it introduces your interest, gives qualifications and experience, then mentions leisure activities and closes with a request. This gives the reader a basic progression. However, the information is compressed into one main paragraph, so the different purposes are not clearly separated. Some links are also awkward or unclear, particularly “so that's why” and the shift from qualifications to “So, in my leisure time.” Use separate paragraphs for your motivation, suitability and free-time plans, and connect them with simple, accurate transitions. The closing and sign-off are present, but a more conventional application-letter ending would strengthen the overall organisation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the task, including “experience,” “qualifications,” “certifications,” “child care” and “leisure time,” so the reader can understand the main message. There is some attempt to use specific terms such as “nanny license.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations sound unnatural, including “in my back home,” “close to the childrens,” and “helps you in cooking.” Spelling errors such as “writng” and “poistion” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural application-letter phrasing and check spelling and word forms carefully; for example, describe your previous work as experience “in my home country” and say you can “help with cooking.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the main ideas are generally understandable. For instance, you combine experience and personal motivation in a sentence beginning “I do have 4 years of experience,” and use a conditional request in “It would be great if you gave me this opportunity.” Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain, however. The opening has incorrect capitalisation and spacing around punctuation, while “I completed all the certifications to be eligible” would be clearer with a more precise structure. There are also problems with plural forms and sentence construction in “the childrens” and “read some books, helps you in cooking.” Use complete, clearly punctuated sentences, check subject–verb agreement and plurals, and maintain consistent capitalisation for “I.”
