Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear sir or madam,
I hope you are doing well. i am writing a letter, yesterday i saw one advertisement in an Australian magazine that you are looking for someone to look after for your six-year-old child and also a chance to live with you. However, I have 2 years degree in early childhood in which i also did 6 months of training in the childhood care. hence, i can deal with kids more lovingly.
I would like to explain furthermore, while having this much experience in child care would be beneficial. Also, I recently did 6 months course of personal support worker in which i have learnt so many new things which also help me to boast my confidence.
Besides that, while living with your family in my leisure time, i would to explore the outdoor activities because that helps me to say relaxed and i fell more confident.
Thank you for you time and consideration and i would look forward for your response
Yours faithfully
Nancy Nancy

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you explain that the advertisement interested you, mention your early-childhood studies and training, and say you would explore outdoor activities in your free time. These details are relevant and give the parents a basic reason to consider you. However, some parts are less fully developed than others. The reason you want the job is not clearly explained beyond seeing the advertisement, and your suitability would be stronger with a specific example of caring for a child or describing a relevant responsibility. Your leisure-time plan is also quite general. Develop these points with a little more detail, and make the purpose of the letter clear from the opening.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a recognisable structure, with separate paragraphs for your background, suitability and free-time plans, followed by a closing. Linking expressions such as “Besides that” and “Thank you for your time and consideration” help signal transitions. Overall, the reader can follow the main message, but some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “I would like to explain furthermore” does not introduce the next idea naturally, and the first paragraph combines the advertisement, your qualifications and a conclusion about working with children. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each detail directly to the point it supports. A more purposeful progression would make the letter easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “early childhood,” “training,” “child care” and “outdoor activities.” There are also attempts to use more formal expressions, such as “time and consideration.” However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “look after for your child,” “boast my confidence” and “say relaxed.” These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less clear, even though the overall message remains understandable. Aim for precise, natural phrases suited to a letter to prospective employers, and check spelling and word forms such as “fell” when you mean “feel.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, for example, the sentence beginning “while having this much experience” and the clause “which also help me.” This shows some range, but control is uneven. Errors include sentence boundaries and capitalisation in “I am writing a letter, yesterday I saw…,” missing or incorrect verb forms in “I would to explore” and “which also help,” and article or preposition patterns in “did 6 months course.” These issues occasionally make the reader pause to interpret the sentence. Use full stops to separate complete ideas, check subject–verb agreement and verb patterns, and proofread capital letters and punctuation. More accurate control of these structures would strengthen the letter.
