Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Madam,

I hope you will be fine. I have seen an advertisemnet in an Australian magazine that you are looking for someone who has an experience of living with family for six months and looking after their six years old child. I have already 2 years of experience and I know each and every thing about this job.I would like to do this job because I love children and their cute habbits. Moreover, I feel happy and relax in their company.

In my view point I am the most suitable person for this job. I have a nephew who lived with us and i look after him. In this context you can understand better why i am considering myself suitable for this job.

Additionally, i spend my free time with that little child. I prepare different kind of nutritious food for him, change his clothes and play with him also. I hope you will look into my offer and hire me for this job.

Yours sincerely,

X.Y.Z.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address the main purpose of applying and give relevant reasons, including your two years of experience and your enjoyment of being with children. However, the task asks you to explain why you want this particular job, show why you would be suitable, and describe how you would spend your free time in Australia. The suitability point is only briefly supported by mentioning your nephew, while the final paragraph describes childcare duties rather than clearly explaining your own free-time plans. The letter also refers to an advertisement for someone with experience, which changes the advertised role. Develop each point more directly—for example, give a specific childcare responsibility you have handled and name activities you would pursue in Australia outside work.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter has a recognisable structure, moving from your interest to your suitability and then to your time with the child, and the closing is appropriate. Paragraphing helps distinguish the main points. However, the progression is not always clear: “Additionally” introduces a paragraph about caring for the child, but this does not answer the free-time part of the task. Some links are mechanical or unclear, such as “In this context,” and the repeated use of “I” at the start of sentences makes the flow feel list-like. Organise the body around the three requested points, and use clearer links that show how each example supports your application.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate your interest and experience, including “experience,” “suitable,” and “nutritious food.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations sound unnatural, which makes parts of the letter less precise. Examples include “each and every thing about this job,” “cute habbits,” and “I feel happy and relax.” There are also spelling and form errors such as “advertisemnet” and “view point.” Aim for accurate, natural phrases suited to a formal application, and check spelling and word forms carefully. More specific vocabulary about childcare and your plans in Australia would also help you express the ideas more clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You communicate through a mix of short statements and some longer sentences, and the main message is generally understandable. However, control is uneven, particularly in verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries. For example, “I have already 2 years of experience” needs a different construction, and “a nephew who lived with us and i look after him” shifts tense within the same idea. The sentence beginning “I have seen an advertisement … that you are looking” also has an awkward clause structure. Capitalisation and spacing after full stops need attention as well. Practise building accurate complex sentences and check that tense and pronouns remain consistent within each sentence.
