Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my interest in child care job. Firstly, I feel that this is the perfect role for me as, I had done my formal studies in early child educator. I will use my studies and experience to give you the best service that you will not regret later.
Additionally, I wanted to share my hobbies with you. I am fond of music. I had knowldge about playing guitar and piano. Whenever, I feel alone, I play Piano to keep my mind relaxed and calm.
Lastly, I hope you will consider my request. If you are interested please feel free to set a formal meeting with me so we can talk more about the role. Usually, I am free in the mornings so kindy use email if I am not able to pick phone call.I am hoping a positive response from your side.
Kind regards,
ABC

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You establish your purpose by saying you are interested in the childcare job and give a relevant reason: your studies in early childhood education. However, the task asks for three specific points, and two are not adequately addressed. You do not explain why you would be suitable beyond mentioning your studies; for example, relevant childcare experience, personal qualities, or how you would care for a six-year-old would strengthen this point. Your hobbies paragraph describes music and playing instruments, but does not clearly say how you would spend your free time in Australia. The closing focuses on arranging a meeting rather than developing these missing details. Address each bullet directly and add specific supporting information so the letter responds more fully to the situation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter has a recognisable structure, with an opening, several paragraphs, and a polite closing. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Additionally,” and “Lastly” help signal movement between points. However, the progression is not fully effective: the paragraph introduced as “Additionally” discusses hobbies without linking them clearly to the requested plans for free time in Australia, while “Lastly” shifts to arranging a meeting rather than completing the task points. Some transitions feel mechanical, and the final paragraph combines availability, contact instructions, and a request for a response. Organise the body around the three requested points, using clear topic sentences and links that show how each detail supports your application.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “child care job,” “formal studies,” “experience,” and “role,” and the reader can generally understand your purpose. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “early child educator” and “fond of music,” though some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural. “Give you the best service” sounds more appropriate for a business than childcare, and “share my hobbies with you” does not clearly describe plans for free time. Spelling and word-form errors such as “knowldge” and “kindy” also reduce precision. Choose natural phrases suited to applying for a childcare position, and describe your qualifications, qualities, and leisure plans with more exact vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and longer sentences, and the main message is usually understandable. However, errors in verb forms, articles, and punctuation occur in several places. For example, “I had done my formal studies” is not the appropriate tense for describing a completed qualification; “I have completed formal studies” would be clearer. In “I had knowldge about playing,” the verb pattern is incorrect, and “as, I had done” contains an unnecessary comma. The sentence beginning “Usually, I am free…” runs into “phone call” without clear punctuation, making the ending harder to follow. Practise accurate tense choices and sentence boundaries, and proofread commas and full stops while retaining your attempts at varied sentence structures.
