Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my interest in job that you recently advertised in Australian magazine. I have competencies to take care of your child, and i will spend extra time in a cafe there.

In advertisement you mentioned that you need a baby sitter who would take care of your child. I would like to get this job because i already have been working for taking care of kids since 10 years. Moreover, i get hired by a cafe in Australia, while working at your place i did not need to find an accommodation separate.

Currently, i am working in a social welfare organization as a inspector of child safety. My roles includes to inspection special needs of a child according to age group and make sure these needs are met which are helpful for a child to be brought up as a useful citizen in future. Previously, i worked in a kindergarten school for 5 years which developed my teaching skills.

I am fond of baking since childhood. I seen an advertisement regarding baking course in a cafe. I enrolled in that course which is for 6 months. I will spend my extra time in learning baking there.

I would be grateful for your consideration. If you need any additional information related to my experience or anything else please ask for it freely.

Yours faithfully,

Faiza

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you explain your interest in childcare, describe relevant experience, and say you would take a baking course in your free time. The strongest support is your ten years caring for children, your current child-safety role, and five years at a kindergarten. However, some details are unclear or not fully developed. For example, the cafe job and accommodation are introduced as reasons for wanting the position, but their connection to your application is not explained. The opening also says you would spend extra time in a cafe, while the later paragraph specifies a baking course. Clarify your motivation and explain more directly how your experience would benefit this particular family.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, paragraphs about your motivation and experience, a section on free time, and a polite closing. Sequencing is generally easy to follow, and phrases such as “Moreover” and “Previously” help connect points. Some links are less clear or feel mechanical, however. The cafe and accommodation sentence interrupts the explanation of why you want the childcare job, and “In advertisement” does not clearly connect to the next sentence. The opening’s reference to spending time in a cafe is also not smoothly developed into the later baking-course plan. Group related reasons together and use clearer references so each paragraph has one main purpose.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for childcare and employment, including “social welfare organization,” “child safety,” “special needs,” and “teaching skills.” These choices help communicate your background. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “competencies to take care of,” “get hired by a cafe,” and “inspection special needs.” There are also spelling and form issues, including “babysitter” written as two words and lowercase “i.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim for common, accurate combinations such as “experience caring for children” and “assess a child’s needs,” rather than using formal-sounding phrases that do not fit the context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “while,” and “which,” and the main message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with articles, verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “interested in job” needs an article, “I already have been working” has an awkward tense form, and “My roles includes” has a subject–verb agreement error. In “I seen an advertisement,” the verb form is incorrect, while “while working at your place i did not need” shifts tense and needs clearer sentence structure. Check articles and verb forms carefully, and use a mix of shorter, controlled sentences with complex ones.
