Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well. I recently came across your job posting and interested to apply. I am a student and looking for a job to cover my school fees and also a place to live. Therefore, I believe this job is perfect and very important for me.

However, I know how extremely important to take care of young ones and I am very good at it. It has been a long journey for me as being a caretaker. Firstly, I used to work at daycare for more than 5 years and I am a very well trained person for this employment. Secondly, I have completed my bachelors in early childhood education, which gives me more confidence to deal with younger kids.

Lastly, I would like to get my weekends off to study and to explore Australia. I like traveling during my leisure time , somedays I can also help with grocery shopping.

Thankyou for your valuable time and I would love to hearback from you.Let me know, if you need additional information.

Yours kindly,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you explain that the role would provide work and accommodation, describe your childcare experience and qualification, and mention travel and exploring Australia in your free time. The five years at a daycare and your degree in early childhood education are relevant evidence of suitability. However, some points are less fully developed than others. For example, “I like traveling during my leisure time” does not say what you hope to see or do, and the request for weekends off is not clearly connected to how you would use your free time. The letter also opens “Dear Sir,” rather than the specified “Dear Sir or Madam,” and the closing could be more conventionally formal. Add a little specific detail to make your plans and suitability more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening explaining your interest, a paragraph about your childcare background, and a final paragraph about free time and availability. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Lastly” help the reader follow the points, and the main message remains easy to understand. To make the progression more natural, avoid relying on these signposts to connect every idea; use clearer links between your experience and why it makes you suitable for this particular family. The final paragraph combines weekends off, travel, and grocery shopping without explaining how these ideas relate. Paragraphing is helpful, but a more focused closing paragraph and clearer transitions would make the cohesion less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “daycare,” “caretaker,” “early childhood education,” and “leisure time,” so the reader can understand your background and plans. There are also attempts at more formal expressions, such as “valuable time” and “additional information.” However, several choices are awkward or imprecise: “job posting” is less natural here than “advertisement,” “young ones” is informal, and “a very well trained person for this employment” is an unnatural way to describe your qualifications. Spelling and spacing in “Thankyou” and “hearback” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural collocations and a consistently polite register, for example, “experienced childcare worker” and “I would be grateful for the opportunity.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause with “which gives me more confidence” and a sentence beginning “Therefore.” Most ideas are understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. In “I recently came across your job posting and interested to apply,” the second clause needs a subject and verb form: “and am interested in applying.” “I know how extremely important to take care” needs “it is” after “know,” while “It has been a long journey for me as being a caretaker” has an awkward and faulty construction. Check articles and possessives in “at daycare” and “my bachelors,” and use punctuation consistently, especially around the final request. More accurate sentence patterns would strengthen the letter while preserving your range.
