Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter because I have seen your advertisement that you require someone to live with you and to take care of your child. I have applied on the given website as I have a vast experience in this field.

I am on visitor visa for 6 months here which allow me to work legally. currently, I am staying with my niece. However, if I get this opportunity to do the work, this would allow me to spend some extra money on my extravagances. I will have more than enough time to spend with her. I can spend time on weekends.

I am considering that this job would suit me better because I used to do work as a professional worker in home care services for 20 years. Thus, I am very much used to the home-environment of different families. Looking after people and taking care of their house is become my passion now and I enjoy it very much.

I can go on beautiful beaches here in Australia. In addition, my dream is to see Sydeny Opera house. I would love to spend time there on weekends. If time permits, I would explore some street foods.

I am looking forward to seeing your response.

Yours faithfully,

Bindi Soni

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you explain that the job would provide extra money, describe your 20 years in home-care services, and mention beaches, the Sydney Opera House and street food as leisure activities. The experience is relevant, but the explanation of why you want the role is less fully developed: “spend some extra money on my extravagances” gives a reason without explaining your interest in caring for a child or living with a family. Your suitability would also be stronger with a specific example of caring for children or supporting a family, rather than relying mainly on general home-care experience. The free-time plans are clear but brief. Develop these points with a little more personal detail to make the letter more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall arrangement, with separate paragraphs for your application, experience and leisure plans, followed by an appropriate closing. This makes the main points easy to locate. You also use linking expressions such as “However,” “Thus” and “In addition” to connect ideas. At times, though, the progression within a paragraph is not fully clear. For example, the paragraph about your visa, niece and extra money moves quickly between circumstances without explaining how they relate to your application. The reference to spending time “with her” is also unclear because the reader must infer who “her” means. Make each paragraph focus on one purpose and use explicit references to people and ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the situation, including “professional worker in home care services,” “home-environment” and “explore some street foods.” These choices communicate your experience and plans, and the meaning is generally clear. However, some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural for a formal application. “Extravagances” suggests unnecessary luxury spending, while “professional worker” and “home-environment” are not natural collocations in this context. There is also a spelling error in “Sydeny.” Aim for precise, conventional phrases such as “earn extra income,” “care professional” and “family home.” Checking spelling and collocations would make your vocabulary sound more fluent and appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and some more complex forms, including “if I get this opportunity … this would allow me” and “because I used to do work … for 20 years.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “which allow me” needs subject–verb agreement, and “Looking after people … is become my passion” has an incorrect verb form. “I am on visitor visa” also needs an article, while “I am considering that this job would suit me better” uses an awkward grammatical pattern. Review agreement, articles and verb forms, and practise expressing past experience and present feelings accurately. These corrections would improve control while preserving your clear message.
