Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing you this letter to show my interested for the job vacancy that you have published in an Australian magazine.

I am an international student currently persuing my degree at XYZ university. I am looking for a baby sitting job which is easier to handle and I can focus on my studies. Therefore, I think this job will be a perfect opportunity for me.

I came to know that you are looking for someone to live along with the family and look after your six-year-old child. I have been broughtup in a joint family with lots of small kids, that give me enough experience in taking care of family members and children. Similarly, I have 4 years experience in tutoring children as I used to work as early childhood educator.

Being a full time student, I usually spend my leisure time at library or horn new skills in internet. My hobbies include travelling and I do like visitng museum where I can learn new things , so I think it might not bring any inconvenience to your family leisure time.

Hoping to hear back from you soon.

With regards.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points in the task: you explain that the role would fit around your studies, describe experience with children, and mention how you would spend your free time. The strongest support is your four years of tutoring and experience growing up with younger children. However, the reason for wanting this particular live-in role is not fully clear: saying babysitting is “easier to handle” and lets you focus on studies may sound as though convenience matters more than caring for the child. Your suitability would be more convincing with a specific example of your childcare responsibilities or qualities. The free-time point is included, but the final comment about not inconveniencing the family is unclear. Develop these ideas more directly and maintain a suitably professional tone throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall structure, with separate paragraphs for your interest, experience, and leisure activities. This makes the main information easy to locate, and phrases such as “Therefore” and “Similarly” help connect ideas. Some links, however, feel mechanical or do not express the relationship clearly. For example, “Similarly” introduces tutoring experience, which is additional evidence rather than a direct comparison, while “so I think it might not bring any inconvenience” leaves the connection between your hobbies and the family’s leisure time uncertain. The opening also repeats the purpose with “I am writing you this letter to show…” after already stating the context. Use more precise transitions and make each paragraph progress naturally from its main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “international student,” “early childhood educator,” “tutoring,” and “leisure time.” These choices communicate your background and interests, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce naturalness: “show my interested” should be “express my interest,” “broughtup” is incorrectly formed, and “horn new skills in internet” does not convey the intended meaning clearly. “Baby sitting job” is also less suitable than “babysitting position” in a formal application. Aim for accurate, natural phrases rather than more elaborate wording, and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and some longer structures, such as “I am looking for a baby sitting job which is easier to handle and I can focus on my studies.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence construction, agreement, and verb patterns. For example, “that give me enough experience” needs a verb agreeing with the singular clause, and “I do like visitng museum” requires a different verb pattern and an article or plural noun. The sentence beginning “Being a full time student” is also awkwardly attached to the main idea. Use a wider range of sentence forms, but check agreement, articles, and verb patterns so that complex sentences remain controlled.
