Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to show interest in your advertisement,as I have 2 years experience of working in a kinder garden. I'm very much intersted to have that job because it is of interset and your mentioned location is near to my work.
Due to my past job I know what things are good for kid to eat and what games they should be indulged in. Apart from that, my wife became mother recently, she would be at home only, having other kid at home, who would love to play with your child, which will be relaxing thing for both of us.
Since last year I am in Australia, I know that great places to visit in, such as V mall and Suric Beach. In fact, these are the places where children will be more that happy to go.
I would love to hear back from you.
Kind regards,
Anmol dadwal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the main purpose of the letter and include reasons for wanting the job, relevant childcare experience, and plans involving places to visit in Australia. The two years of kindergarten work and your knowledge of children’s food and games are useful details. However, some parts are only partly developed: the reason that the location is near your work is unclear in the context of a six-month stay, and the paragraph about your wife and child does not clearly explain your own suitability or availability. Your free-time plans are also mixed with activities for the employer’s child. Clarify why you want this particular role, give specific evidence of your childcare skills, and distinguish your personal leisure plans from outings with the child.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce your interest, explain your experience, mention Australia, and close politely. Paragraphing helps the reader identify these topics, and phrases such as “Apart from that” and “Since last year” provide some linking. However, the progression is not always clear. The sentence about your wife and her child shifts from your suitability to family circumstances without explaining how this would work, while the final paragraph moves between your free time and places children might enjoy. Some links feel mechanical or do not make the relationship between ideas clear. Use more direct transitions and keep each paragraph focused on one task point, especially separating your qualifications from your leisure plans.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “advertisement,” “experience,” “games,” and “places to visit,” so the basic message can be understood. However, the range is limited and several word choices, collocations, and spelling errors make the letter less natural. For example, “kinder garden” is not the usual term for a childcare setting, “things are good for kid to eat” is vague, and “indulged in” does not fit naturally with games. There are also misspellings such as “intersted” and “interset.” Aim for precise childcare vocabulary and check spelling; phrases such as “early-childhood centre,” “nutritious meals,” and “activities suitable for a six-year-old” would communicate your meaning more clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including the sentence beginning “Apart from that,” and the letter’s meaning is generally recoverable. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often not controlled accurately. For example, “my wife became mother recently, she would be at home only” joins two clauses with a comma and has problems with articles and tense; “having other kid at home, who would love to play” also has an unclear grammatical connection. Other examples include “2 years experience” and “your mentioned location is near to my work.” Practise building longer sentences with clear clause boundaries, and check articles, verb forms, and sentence punctuation. More accurate simple sentences would also make your points easier to follow.
