Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my interset to join care-taker job. I have seen an advertisement in an Australian magazine looking for someone to take care a family for six months and look after the six-year-old child. Currently, I am working as a nurse in Australia, and I have vacation holidays around eight months. So, your location also incredibly convenient to me. I would like to join this job for 6 months.

As a nurse I have a decade experience in this field, and I also possess the qualities of take caring children. Additionally, I can do all the activities for baby like feed, bath, play and all. Eventhough, I have two kids I know how to handle children carefully. Therefore, I am available for care-taker from 20th August to 20th February.

I have been living in Australia for 10 years. In my leisure time I can go to my home daily in the evening 6PM to 7PM. If you could accept my request, I would be grateful to you.

Thank you for you time and consideration. I look forward to your positive response.

Yours faithfully,

Manasa Chindam

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address the three requested points: you explain your interest, describe your nursing experience and experience with your own children, and mention how you would spend free time. However, some details are unclear or do not fully answer the task. “Your location also incredibly convenient to me” does not explain where you are based or why the arrangement suits you, while “go to my home daily in the evening” is confusing as a description of leisure time in Australia. Develop this point with specific activities or places you hope to visit, and explain more clearly how your childcare skills would benefit the family. The purpose is understandable, but the ideas remain limited and under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter has a recognisable structure, with separate paragraphs for your interest, suitability, and free time, followed by a polite closing. This helps the reader identify the main points. Some progression is weakened by abrupt or unclear connections: “Therefore” introduces your availability, although the dates do not clearly follow from the preceding claims, and “If you could accept my request” shifts suddenly to a closing request. The sequence of information within the first paragraph also moves from the advertisement to your job and location without clearly linking these details. Use clearer transitions and arrange each paragraph around one developed point, especially explaining how your schedule and proposed free time fit the arrangement.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary, including “nurse,” “decade experience,” “qualities,” and “handle children,” so the reader can understand your general background. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the message difficult to interpret. For example, “join care-taker job” and “take care a family” do not express the intended meaning naturally; “care for a child” and “apply for the position” would be clearer. “Vacation holidays” is repetitive, and “activities for baby” is not well suited to a six-year-old. Check spelling as well: “interset” should be “interest.” More precise childcare and leisure vocabulary would strengthen the letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, such as “As a nurse I have a decade experience in this field, and I also possess…” and “If you could accept my request, I would be grateful to you.” The conditional sentence is a useful structure, but errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “I have vacation holidays around eight months,” “I can do all the activities for baby,” and “I have been living in Australia for 10 years,” where articles, prepositions, or sentence construction need attention. There are also punctuation and capitalization issues, such as “6PM” and the comma after “Eventhough.” Practise accurate sentence patterns and review articles, verb forms, and punctuation before submitting.
