Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing in response to your advertisement about an employment in your home to look after your family and a six-year-old child.
In future, I want to work as a caretaker; therefore, after having it, I would be able to apply for daycare position in school.
I would be the best fit for this job as I have recently completed child care programme from the recognised university and posses necessary skills, such as empathy, good communication, and problem-solving. In addition, I have five months experience in baby sitting as I have lived with well- known family to take care of their new born baby.
During a six-month agreement with you, I would stay with your family and take care of everyone. I could spend my spare time with your child and can instill reading habits in him because I am also fond of reading.
I am looking forward to hearing a positive response from you at your earliest convenience.
Yours faithfully,
Prabh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the three requested points: you explain that the role supports your career plans, give childcare training and babysitting experience, and mention reading with the child in your free time. The qualifications and five months of experience are relevant evidence of suitability. However, the motivation is brief, and the free-time point is not fully answered: spending time with the child is part of the job, while the task asks how you would use your own free time in Australia. The phrase “take care of everyone” also makes your duties unclear. Develop your reasons for wanting the position and add specific personal activities or interests you would pursue outside work.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter follows a generally clear sequence, moving from your reason for applying to your qualifications, experience, and closing. Linking expressions such as “therefore” and “In addition” help connect related points, and the paragraphs make the main information easy to locate. Some connections are less clear, however: “after having it” has an uncertain reference, and the shift from your career plans to being “the best fit” could be smoother. The free-time idea is also joined to childcare duties, which blurs the distinction between work and leisure. Use clearer paragraphing for each task point and make references explicit to strengthen the progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal application, including “problem-solving,” “empathy,” “instill reading habits,” and “at your earliest convenience.” These choices communicate relevant skills and maintain a suitably polite tone. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “an employment in your home,” “after having it,” and “daycare position in school.” “Take care of your family” also suggests caring for all family members rather than the child. Aim for more precise, natural phrases for the role and your experience, and check spelling and word forms, including “possess” and “well-known.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including the reason clause beginning “as I have lived with…” and the sentence linking your career goal with “therefore.” Most of the message remains understandable, and punctuation generally supports the meaning. Some grammatical errors remain, such as the missing article in “apply for daycare position” and the awkward construction “after having it.” In “I could spend my spare time … and can instill,” the modal verbs are not parallel; use “could” consistently. The sentence beginning “During a six-month agreement” also has an unclear grammatical relationship between the agreement and your actions. Review articles, parallel verb forms, and sentence construction.
