Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter regarding the advertisement you placed for looking after your child.
I am really interested in doing this job because I have been a part of a well known child care in Perth since 2020. I recently left the job because its working hours were coinciding with my university hours.I would love to do this job as its my passion to take care of children, spend productive time with them and keeping them engaged in physical activities.
I think, this job will suits me because of my good experience with the child care, I am aware of everything that should be done to take care of a child.I know a lot to keep the child interactive and happy.
Meanwhile,I will continue to study part time in my university and will complete my remaining degree side by side. This will help me to have some savings for my university expenditure, furthermore it will revive my inner child who used to spend most of his time with the childrens.
Looking forward to your response,
Kind regards,
Aalam

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You address the main purpose and explain your interest through your childcare experience in Perth and your enjoyment of keeping children active. You also give some reasons you could be suitable, including experience and knowing how to keep a child happy. However, the suitability details remain general: you do not describe specific duties, skills, or examples from your work. The free-time point is also only partly answered. Continuing part-time university study is relevant, but it does not clearly explain how you would spend leisure time in Australia. The letter therefore responds to the task only partially, with key ideas under-developed. Develop each bullet point directly, especially by adding a concrete example of childcare responsibility and a clear leisure activity.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter has a recognisable sequence: you introduce the advertisement, explain your interest, describe your suitability, and then mention your plans in Australia. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “because” and “Meanwhile” signal relationships between ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, particularly where several reasons are joined in one long sentence. The transition from university study to savings and then to “revive my inner child” also feels abrupt. Some punctuation spacing makes the flow less smooth. Organise each paragraph around one clear task point, and use linking phrases to show how the supporting details relate rather than simply adding them.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “child care,” “productive time,” “engaged in physical activities,” and “university expenditure.” There are also attempts at more expressive phrasing, such as “revive my inner child.” However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural for a formal application letter: “a part of a well known child care” and “I know a lot to keep the child interactive” do not express your experience clearly. “Childrens” is also an incorrect plural form. Aim for precise childcare terms and natural collocations, such as describing responsibilities, activities, or relevant skills. A more formal and specific vocabulary range would make your suitability more convincing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause with “because” and a sentence explaining how study could help with expenses. The overall meaning is generally understandable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and punctuation occur. For example, “this job will suits me” should be “this job will suit me,” and “its working hours were coinciding” would be more naturally expressed as “its working hours coincided.” In “I think, this job,” the comma is unnecessary, while several sentences run together without a space after a full stop. Review subject–verb agreement and verb patterns, and separate ideas with accurate punctuation. More consistently controlled sentences would improve clarity.
