Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I'm writing to apply for the job you published on "The east" magazine to take care of your child. The reason why Iiked your offer because I planned for so long to go to Australia, but I needed a strong purpose that can motivate me to do so, that's why I felt instantly that this chance is meant for me.

Although growing up in a caring family, I was the older from my brothers and my mom often needed help, and at this time I begins to assist my parents in the house by paying attention to my brothers. During this period I realized that childcare isn't that easy, that's one of the reason I think I might be the suitable person for William.

In addition, I used to work a part time job in the local elementary school during the holidays and weekends, which I used to organise activities for kids. Not only that but also gave sessions to help in school subjects.

While I will be in Australia for a long period, I'm planning to find an extra part time job to secure my financial needs and also to be able to do some road trips in the eastern coast, because I have several destinations I'm planning to visit.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

Yours faithfuly,

Nabil.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points and maintain a clear purpose: you want to visit Australia, describe experience caring for younger brothers and working at an elementary school, and explain plans for a part-time job and road trips. These details make your application relevant and give the parents reasons to consider you. The childcare experience is the strongest part, especially your mention of organising activities and helping children with school subjects. However, some points need fuller development to make the letter more persuasive: explain what you learned about caring for children or give an example of how you would support William. Your free-time plans are clear but could be linked more directly to your interests and availability for the family.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: you introduce your application, describe family and work experience, then discuss your plans in Australia and close politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish these points, and connectors such as “In addition” and “While” show how ideas relate. Some links are less smooth or precise, however. The second paragraph moves from your upbringing to your suitability without clearly explaining what you learned, and “Not only that but also” does not connect grammatically to the preceding sentence. The long opening sentence also combines several ideas, making the progression harder to follow. Use clearer links between experience and suitability, and keep each sentence focused on one main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the application and relevant experience, including “childcare,” “organise activities,” “sessions,” and “road trips.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “secure my financial needs.” However, several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make the expression less natural: “the older from my brothers,” “paying attention to my brothers,” and “Yours faithfuly” are not appropriate forms for this context. “The east” also needs accurate capitalisation as a magazine title. Aim for natural phrases such as “the eldest of my siblings,” “look after my younger brothers,” and “Yours faithfully.” More precise vocabulary for your childcare skills would make the letter sound more confident and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “a part time job … which I used to organise activities” and a conditional-style explanation of your motivation. The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity and control. For example, “The reason why I liked your offer because” is missing a main verb structure, while “I begins to assist” has an incorrect verb form. In “Not only that but also gave sessions,” the sentence lacks a clear subject, and “While I will be in Australia” is an awkward tense construction for a future plan. Practise complete clause structures, consistent verb forms, and accurate use of conjunctions; these changes would make your varied sentences more reliable.
