Student answer (Band 7.0)

It is widely believed that due to the inclined interest of people in online shopping every store in cities would be closed one day. However, I disagree with this assertion.

One major reason of shops to be present in the future is customer satisfaction. Number of multinational companies such as Nike, Adidas and Hugo Boss are famous by their clothing. People spend their hard earned money after they try wearing clothes first by visiting a nearby store which gives them sense of satisfaction after buying. Thus, store must be there for buyers as well as for the seller.

A proper location is also mandatory for a business from where a store can run their business. Although online websites are available for customers who want to buy a product, a business owner needs a place where employees are working from receiving an online order to delivering the products on customer's door step. In addition, even a business is small or big, a storage space and shop is the key to be successful. So, despite the availability of goods online, people will be having enough shops around them.

Many shops such as Tiffany, Pandora and Michael Hills sell expensive jwellery online. However people opt to visit a closest store instead of placing an order online because the parcel could be stole form outside of their house. Due to which, people might feel sad as it is total waste of money. Consequently, shops would be there in order to provide a safe place for the customers who want to spend more.

In conclusion, while online shopping is in vogue nowadays, number of shops will also be there in the market for better customer experience and for the growth of a business.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as the importance of physical interaction for luxury goods and the security concerns of home delivery. However, some arguments are slightly under-developed; for instance, the point about business locations is somewhat conflated with the need for physical shops. While the response covers the main aspects of the prompt, the development of ideas could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the stance, ensuring the task is fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a distinct point. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Thus', 'In addition', and 'Consequently' are used to link ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a solid band 6.5 or 7.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, with some attempts at topic-specific language like 'multinational companies', 'customer satisfaction', and 'in vogue'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'inclined interest' instead of 'growing interest', 'stole form' instead of 'stolen from', and 'total waste of money'. These errors do not impede communication but indicate a need for more precise collocation and control over word forms to reach the next level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'One major reason of shops to be present' (should be 'for shops to exist'), 'store must be there' (missing article 'a'), and 'even a business is small or big' (should be 'whether a business is small or large'). Punctuation is mostly accurate, but the frequency of minor grammatical slips prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The control of complex structures is inconsistent.
