Student answer (Band 6.5)
In todays era internet and technology is increasing rapidly where online shopping becomes a new trend. While some people think that this trend might force the shop owners to close their stores in towns and cities. However, I disagree with the given phenomenon that I will discuss in further paragraphs.
To begin with, online shopping is not always fast, authentic and sometimes individuals face problems like fake products because of AI usage in the market, higher delivery charges and longer period of time to deliver goods. As a result, people chose to go to malls or stores for shopping where they can try the different size and colors rather then returning the products after paying shipping fees which is non-refundable most of the times.
Furthermore, online shopping also affects the social interaction of individuals. Many elderly people spend their times visiting coffee shops in the morning and nice dinners on the weekend in public places. Additionally, many young people are working from home after the covid pandemic and they do not have much social life during the weekdays so they also spend their free times by visiting different places where they can intact with individuals. For example, many fashion influencers and food bloggers are helping to promote places where people can visit and enjoy new experiences.
In conclusion, even the online shopping is increasing but it will never replace the retail stores as these shops are generating a extreme number of jobs for individuals and people are more aware about social benefits to human beings.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding the limitations of online shopping (e.g., product authenticity, shipping costs) and the social value of physical stores are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about job creation in the conclusion is introduced too late to be properly developed. To reach a higher band, the essay should provide more depth in the body paragraphs rather than introducing new points in the conclusion. The response is balanced, but the arguments could be more thoroughly supported with specific examples or logical extensions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, there are some issues with mechanical cohesion and sentence-level flow. For example, the second sentence of the introduction is a fragment ('While some people think...'), and the transition between the idea of social interaction and the example of influencers is slightly abrupt. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression could be smoother with more varied linking words.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'authentic' and 'phenomenon', but there are also instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'intact with individuals' (should be 'interact') and 'generating a extreme number' (should be 'an extreme'). The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but the lack of precision and occasional errors in word formation prevent it from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally affect the flow of reading. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('internet and technology is increasing'), punctuation errors, and sentence fragments ('While some people think... However, I disagree...'). While the meaning is generally clear, the control over complex structures is inconsistent. To improve, the writer should focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like article usage and verb tense consistency.
