Student answer (Band 7.0)

Nowadays, growth of e-commerce has risen significantly. Undoubtedly, online shopping has may advantages and will be rapidly increase in upcoming future. However, I does not totally agree that e-commerce will result up in closing all the physical stores. The reasons foe this will be highlighted below with relevant examples.

To begin with, some people are not keen of online shopping. Most of the time people are not satisfied with what they have ordered online. It might be because they have not received the accurate product or delivery issues. Consequently, people get frustrated when they get wrong parcels due to which they had to face many problems. For instance, when people order clothes from online platform they face problems like size issue, quality and color of the product. Moreover, cyber crimes take place while people add their card details on online websites. It have been reported many times that there are many forge accounts on social media which looks genuine. When people try to order something from these sites by giving their card details then they become of cyber attacks.

The quality of the product cannot be checked online. When an individual spend their money on expensive electronic equipment such as Washing machine or Air conditioning they need to check its quality in brick-and-mortar shops. It becomes a daunting task for a person to check all the features online. As a result, people are being more satisfied while they shop from physical stores as they get chance to check minor details. Furthermore, people are also afraid of return policies. Some products such as jewellery and makeup products does not have return policy if obtained online. As a result, this would be unnecessary spending if a person does not like the product.

To conclude, technological era has lead to increase in online shopping. Although, it does not mean that physical stores will be locked in future. There would always be a demand for physical shopping experiences as well as the products which cannot be purchased online.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant reasons for your disagreement, such as the inability to verify product quality and concerns regarding cyber security. The ideas are extended with examples, such as mentioning electronic appliances and clothing. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more fully developed; for instance, you could discuss the social or community value of physical shopping spaces to add depth to your argument. Overall, the response is well-focused and directly answers the question.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'Consequently', and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother, avoiding overly simplistic sentence structures that can disrupt the logical progression of your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'e-commerce', 'brick-and-mortar', 'daunting task', and 'technological era'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'result up in' instead of 'result in' and 'forge accounts' instead of 'fake or fraudulent accounts'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Focusing on learning collocations and more academic synonyms will help elevate your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('I does not', 'It have been reported', 'products does not') and incorrect verb forms ('has lead to' instead of 'has led to'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, pay closer attention to basic subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring accuracy will help you achieve a higher score.
