Student answer (Band 6.5)

I don't agree with the statement that online shopping will one day lead to all shops closing, rather i feel this will further increase the pressure on businesses to provide more and more options, accessibility and flexibility to customers. Some people like to look and feel before they buy any stuff, when others like children of new generations would like to sit back home and buy things online with the flexibility of returning if this is not as per the expectation. I would like to quote a real life example here, for my husband's birthday, i wanted him to buy a white trousers from a specific brand, however, this was expensive and we were waiting for this article to go on sale before we could buy. In less than a month, we were notified of article going on discount and we ordered the trousers for lesser price. I was excited about early delivery options and when we received the delivery, my excitement turned into disappointment because despite ordering the correct size, it wasn't a perfect fit so we had no option but to return. That day, we decided not to get tempted with the convenience of online shopping. I am of strong opinion when i am spending money on something, i shall have a reliable experience of buying appropriate product. However, i still don't completely negate the experinec of online shopping, it has definitely eased out the chaos of daily life and now you can buy just anything with a few clicks of your phone without spending money on commuting or getting affected by weather.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have clearly stated your position against the prompt and provided relevant arguments. However, the response is written as a single, long paragraph, which makes it difficult to follow the development of your ideas. While you provide a personal example regarding the purchase of trousers, the argument could be more effectively developed by discussing broader economic or social trends rather than focusing solely on one personal anecdote. To improve, ensure you structure your essay into clear paragraphs (introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion) to allow for a more thorough exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response lacks paragraphing, which is a significant issue for coherence. The ideas are presented in a continuous block of text, making it difficult for the reader to identify the transition between your introduction, your supporting arguments, and your conclusion. While you use some cohesive devices like 'however' and 'although', the overall logical flow is hampered by the lack of structural organization. To achieve a higher band, you must use clear paragraph breaks to separate your main ideas and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'accessibility', 'flexibility', and 'negate'. However, there are some informal word choices such as 'stuff' and 'get tempted', which are less appropriate for an academic or formal essay. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'article' used to refer to a pair of trousers, which is slightly unnatural in this context. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and avoid colloquialisms to enhance the professional tone of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in punctuation and grammar. For example, there are comma splices (e.g., '...closing, rather i feel...') and issues with capitalization (e.g., 'i' instead of 'I'). Additionally, some sentences are slightly awkward, such as '...when others like children of new generations would like to sit back home...'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency of the text. Focusing on sentence boundaries and basic grammatical conventions will help improve your score.
