Student answer (Band 7.0)
The rising growth of online shopping will eventually lead to closure of all shops in cities and towns one day. I agree with this view due to a few physical benefits derived by individuals from the development of online purchasing as well as increasing technological innovations in the society, which will be analyzed in this essay.
First and foremost, one of the major advantages of online shopping is its stress-free nature, reducing physical demands in individuals. When people make purchases on shopping platforms through the internet on their mobile phones or personal devices, they usually derive more comfort due to the convenience, mobility and flexibility features. This helps in reducing the need to travel down to cities or nearest shop to get valuable items by making it more accessible and closer through the internet. For instance, many corporate workers usually make orders of valuable items and foodstuffs through online platforms every month-end and get it delivered to their doorstep conveniently, reducing the burden of missing working hours for a whole day shopping.
Furthermore, rising technological innovations such as development of mobile applications for transactions and shopping platforms to enhance a seamless payment nature is a major player contributing to the fast growth of online purchase. The development of multiple banking applications by Fin-tech firms across the globe for individuals to make transactions on shopping websites is an additional factor because it allows precision and balance of trade between the seller and the buyer. Additionally other innovations like third party payment platforms such as stripe, remitta, paystack also play a major role in the seamless flow of transactions online.
In conclusion, advantages derived physically by individuals as well as the rising global technological development contributing to payment and purchase of online goods are valid reasons for the shops and towns in cities to eventually close down one day.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of the statement. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide reasons for the growth of online shopping (convenience and technological innovation), you do not fully address the counter-argument or the implications of 'all' shops closing. The argument remains somewhat superficial, focusing more on why online shopping is popular rather than why physical shops will inevitably disappear entirely. To reach a higher band, you should explore the limitations of online shopping or the specific types of physical stores that might survive, providing a more balanced and nuanced discussion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to signal the progression of your argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing within paragraphs could be smoother. For example, the link between the second paragraph's focus on 'technological innovations' and the conclusion's summary could be more tightly integrated. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'technological innovations', 'seamless payment', and 'precision'. There are some instances of slightly unnatural collocations, such as 'reducing physical demands in individuals' or 'balance of trade between the seller and the buyer', which is not the standard economic usage. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Expanding your use of topic-specific collocations and idiomatic expressions would improve your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'reducing the need to travel down to cities or nearest shop' (missing articles) and 'making it more accessible and closer through the internet' (slightly awkward phrasing). However, these errors do not impede communication. You show a good attempt at using complex sentences, though the control over punctuation and article usage could be more consistent. To improve, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles in more complex sentence constructions.
