Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 193 words long. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, which remain superficial and under-developed. While you state a partial agreement, the arguments provided are repetitive and lack sufficient depth or specific examples to fully support your position. The essay also ends abruptly mid-sentence, indicating an incomplete response. To improve, you must ensure you reach the word count by expanding on your points with more detailed explanations and concrete examples, and ensure the essay has a clear, finished conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. You use some basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition to it', and 'on the other hand', but these are sometimes used mechanically. The progression of ideas is somewhat logical, but the lack of a proper conclusion and the abrupt ending disrupt the overall coherence. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that is fully developed before moving to the next point.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'big impact', 'big loss', and 'more discounts' are used frequently. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'online website give' (should be 'websites offer') and 'online shoppers increase' (should be 'the number of online shoppers increased'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise and academic vocabulary related to the topic of commerce and technology, and avoid repeating the same simple adjectives.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('small shops has', 'online shopping give'), missing articles ('the university of Toronto'), and incorrect verb forms ('It is often argue'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing spaces after commas and periods. These errors are noticeable and occasionally cause slight difficulty for the reader. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent use of articles and verb tenses.
