Student answer (Band 7.0)
There is an ongoing debate about the increase on how the purchase of goods from online markets might cause shopping centers across the country to shutdown. In my opinion, I strongly believe that that physically purchasing goods cannot be replaced by buying from online vendors.
To begin with, Malls and local stores are known for hoe easily accessible and reliable they are. A person can easily walk into a store to buy what they need without the fear of being scammed. People still prefer walking into stores themselves to buy what they need. For instance, there has been a fast growing trend about individuals who purchased goods from an application on the internet not getting exactly what they ordered. Some of them end up receiving goods that does not meet their requirements or in most cases, they don’t get the goods delivered because they have been duped by someone they don’t know.
In addition, some products bought online are always sold at a more expensive price. For instance, a kilo of chicken bought at an online grocery store, when compared to the one bought at the local markets, is way more pricey even though it has less quality. People prefer getting their value in quality and also at a lesser cost so they patronize walk-in stores instead.
However, online marketplaces has made life a bit easier for some people. For example, a career oriented person, who might not have time to visit shopping centers due to busy work hours will patronize online shopping in order to survive. But, it still doesn’t change the fact that , there might be service failure during their purchase which will cause them to loose both their money and goods.
In conclusion, irrespective of the fact that online shopping makes life easier, the fact still remains that people will always choose reliability, accessibility and quality provided by local markets.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the total closure of physical shops. The ideas are relevant, focusing on reliability, quality, and accessibility. However, the development is somewhat limited; the arguments rely heavily on personal anecdotes and generalizations about online shopping scams and pricing, which could be more balanced with broader economic or social perspectives. While the position is consistent throughout, the supporting arguments could be more sophisticated to reach a higher band. The response covers all parts of the task, but the depth of analysis is somewhat restricted.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, such as reliability or pricing. Cohesive devices like 'To begin with,' 'In addition,' and 'However' are used to guide the reader through the argument. While the progression is generally clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. The referencing is mostly clear, though the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother to better connect the concepts of reliability and cost.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific language such as 'online vendors,' 'patronize,' and 'career-oriented.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'increase on how' and 'fast growing trend about individuals.' Additionally, there are minor errors like 'loose' instead of 'lose.' While the range is sufficient to discuss the topic, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands, as the phrasing is often repetitive or slightly unnatural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('goods that does not meet,' 'online marketplaces has made'), and punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary comma in 'fact that , there.' While these errors are frequent, they do not impede communication. The writer demonstrates an ability to construct complex sentences, but the control over these structures is inconsistent. To improve, the writer should focus on proofreading for basic agreement and punctuation errors to ensure a more polished final product.
