Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, citizens are more likely to purchase things from online websites to save time. Some people consider this trend negatively as they believe it will lead down local supermarkets and force to close. However, I totally disagree with the notion because physical stores offer advantages such as cultural values, locals' trust and craftmanship of regional markets which can not break their economy.

The main reason why some people still prefer to buy goods from town streets even in the digital era is the reliability. Because regular customers tend to have more trust in local vendors as they provide easily accessible guarantees and warranty. For example, a damaged mobile phone purchased from local shops can be repaired or replaced within a day, while online customers have to wait for a response of customer service assistant which delays the whole process. Thus, giving a preferance to physical shops may be somewhat more crusial than going online.

Another reason is that traditional markets play a significant role in preserving local culture and supporting skilled artisans. Many people produce handmade goods such as pottery, paintings, textiles, and jewellery using techniques that have been passed down through generations. Therefore many people visit local markets to get antique and historic items rather than buying online. Moreover this helps to stay connected with cultural importance and local history. For example, making bangles from the scratch has been in a trend since a decade in Rajasthan, many tourists are visiting there nowadays and purchasing bangles from there only instead of ordering online.

To conclude, although e-commeres shops saves time and is easily accessible, I believe offline shopping provides fast paced service and more reliability so there are no chances of completely shutting down of local shopping streets in an influence of a digital marketing strategies.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly, maintaining a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding reliability and cultural preservation are relevant and supported with examples, such as the repair of mobile phones and the production of bangles in Rajasthan. However, the development is somewhat limited; the essay could be strengthened by exploring the counter-argument more deeply or discussing the economic impact of online shopping in more detail. While the position is clear, the ideas are occasionally generalized, and the conclusion repeats the main points without adding significant depth. Overall, the response fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'For example', 'Thus', and 'Moreover' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is slightly unclear, such as the phrase 'in an influence of a digital marketing strategies' in the conclusion, which disrupts the flow. Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'craftmanship', 'reliability', and 'preserving', which are appropriate for the context. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'lead down local supermarkets', 'force to close', and 'giving a preferance'. Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'e-commeres' and 'crusial'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word choice and spelling to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and prepositions, such as 'force to close' instead of 'forced to close' and 'in an influence of' instead of 'under the influence of'. Some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as 'making bangles from the scratch has been in a trend since a decade'. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence construction that occasionally affect the precision of the message. The range of structures is sufficient, but accuracy needs improvement.
