Student answer (Band 6.0)

The growth of online shopping will one day lead to all shops in towns and cities closing.

Online shoping is become a trend nowadays people like to do online shopping because with online shopping they can save time and also they get the things in cheaper prices that in shops. The growth of online shopping will one day lead to closing of shops in towns and cities. I disagree with this. I will discuss the reasons in the upcoming paragraphs.

Firstly, Online shopping is not a best option. it can save time and money. But sometimes people do not get what they order such as not perfect size for their clothes and it does not always comes in good fabric. For Example- last Month I ordered a t-shirt from Temu. I ordered a small size, but when I received the order the shirt was oversized then I returned the order and go went to my local store and bought a shirt. Therefore I agree that people do online shopping but it does not mean that it will lead to the closing of shops in towns and cities.

Secondly, In online shopping there is a risk of scams. On social media platforms like Instagram people make many fake website in which they show some products like clothes and perfume and advertise them in a very attractive way. when people buy those products and pay for them they do not get anything these websites are just for getting money from people. Hence, those people who get scammed by these kind of websites they prefer shopping from shops. So, online shopping can not lead to the closing of shops.

In concluding, Many people like to do online shopping but there are many other people who do not like online shopping for many reasons. thus, the growth of online shopping can not lead to closing of all shops in towns and cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the idea that all physical shops will close. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide two reasons—the unreliability of online sizing and the risk of scams—these points are somewhat repetitive and could be expanded with more sophisticated analysis regarding the social or experiential value of physical shopping. The introduction is a bit mechanical, and the conclusion is brief. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully extended and that you explore the counter-arguments or broader implications of the topic more deeply.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In concluding' to signal the structure. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally imprecise (e.g., 'these websites are just for getting money'). The transition between ideas could be smoother; for instance, the link between the personal anecdote about the t-shirt and the broader argument about shop closures could be more explicitly stated. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the cohesive devices are used in a somewhat repetitive and simplistic manner.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'bad', 'things', and 'get'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'online shoping is become a trend' (should be 'is becoming') and 'cheaper prices that in shops' (should be 'than in shops'). To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to retail, consumer behavior, and digital commerce. Avoid repeating the same phrases, such as 'closing of shops in towns and cities', and instead use synonyms or paraphrasing to demonstrate a wider range of lexical items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('online shoping is become'), article usage, and tense consistency ('go went to my local store'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization after periods and the use of hyphens. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency would significantly improve your accuracy.
