Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is undeniable fact that growing popularity of online shopping will cause most physical shops in town and cities to close. Although online purchase give individuals freedom to get thing on just one click, I disagree that it will completely shut down traditional shops.

On the one hand, so many people prefers to buy things while relaxing on their sofa but it does not allow them to experience how product is it. Moreover, online retailer offers free deliveries and attractive discounts which attract more customer. As a result, people save their money as well as cost of travel. For instance, during COVID 19 pandemic online shopping played vital role because it allowed them to get groceries and household stuffs without leaving their homes.

However, despite its benefits I firmly believe that physical shops enable individuals to try things on them and then purchase. To add to it, many customers prefers to examine products before buying such as, electronic device, furniture and jewellery which online shopping can not provide. Gen Z kids always try clothes on them before buying and which give them more confidence to buy products. For example, me and my sister went to traditional shop for getting my prom dress where I found variety of options as well as retailer provided me suggestions about jewellery like what will suit on it.

In conclusion, there is no doubt online shopping save our money as well as convenience although, it would not replace physical shops. Because of its. benefits of examining products before buying and it provide us choice as well as confidence to purchase that things.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as the tactile experience of shopping versus the convenience of online platforms. However, the development is somewhat uneven. For instance, the argument regarding 'Gen Z' is a bit anecdotal and could be more broadly framed to strengthen the essay's academic tone. While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, ensuring the task is fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'However', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or repetitive, and there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as the phrase 'Because of its. benefits' in the conclusion, which contains a punctuation error that disrupts the flow. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, but the use of cohesive devices could be more sophisticated and varied to improve the natural flow of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'online retailer', 'physical shops', and 'attractive discounts'. However, there are several word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'get thing on just one click' (should be 'purchase items with a single click') and 'household stuffs' (should be 'household items' or 'goods'). The range is sufficient for the task, but the lack of precision and occasional errors in word formation prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('It is undeniable fact'), subject-verb agreement ('online purchase give', 'many customers prefers'), and pluralization ('electronic device'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, notably the sentence fragment in the conclusion: 'Because of its. benefits of examining products before buying and it provide us choice'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader, though they do not completely impede communication. More attention to basic grammar rules and sentence construction is required.
