Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in agreement with the statement. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention discounts and convenience as reasons for the decline of local shops, the arguments are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, you mention 'discounts' in almost every paragraph without exploring other factors like the social value of local shops or the limitations of online shopping (e.g., lack of physical interaction or delivery delays). To improve, you should provide more nuanced examples and ensure each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported point rather than restating the same idea.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is often hindered by repetitive phrasing and a lack of sophisticated cohesive devices. While you use some transition words like 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion', the connections between sentences are often mechanical. Some sentences are disjointed, making the progression of ideas feel somewhat circular. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence builds logically upon the previous one, rather than simply repeating the main argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use simple terms like 'good', 'discount', and 'shop'. There are also issues with word forms and collocations, such as 'all age of the people' instead of 'people of all ages' and 'local shop has to closed' instead of 'local shops will have to close'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to commerce and technology, and pay closer attention to the correct grammatical form of the words you choose.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('local shop has to closed'), missing articles, and incorrect verb tenses ('the development of online shopping increased'). There is a limited range of complex sentence structures, and many sentences are simple or contain structural errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Practising the use of complex sentences with subordinate clauses will also help demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
