Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the recent years, technology had made an positive impact on the world. It has helped humans to dwelve in each and every category of their field of work.

Along the time, there have been concerns raised regarding the innovative ideas of mankind such as online shopping. Where some believes that it has led to an ease for humans, where as on the other side some believes that it has led to difficulty for humans.

In this eassay, I am going to talk about how the growth of online shopping will one day lead to all shops in towns and cities closing. The growth of online shopping has helped the peoples in a very vast areas, to cite an example; Online shopping has made the product availabilty through out the entire world very feasible. The person shopping online can access very huge amount of collections for themselves through websites. To give an example, if I want to buy a sneaker, the online website of the store gives me a very vast size of collections compares to what I get in stores.

On the other hand, the shops in the towns and cities gets less customer inside the stores compare to their online customer. This leads to low volume of traffic throughout the towns and cities. I believe that, this puts a negative impact in the maintainence of the store. To cite an example, for the past 8 years, I have been visiting a store name West Style in my town. The store was use to be very busy in the begining. And as result, to deal with the traffic inside the store, the store owner decided to switch the store online instead of expanding it on the land. Which resulted a negative impact on the store as people choose other top brands if they were to shop online. And as result, the owner had to shut down their bussiness.

To wrap things up, I totally agree that the current growth of online shopping will one day lead to all shope in towns and cities closing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed the prompt and maintained a clear position throughout the essay. You provided relevant arguments regarding the convenience of online shopping and the decline of physical retail. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument that all shops will close is a strong claim that requires more nuanced exploration of why certain physical stores (like experience-based retail or grocery) might survive. Your personal example of 'West Style' is relevant but could be more effectively linked to the broader economic trend to strengthen your argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points are fully extended and address the 'all shops' aspect of the prompt with more depth.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'On the other hand' and 'To wrap things up,' to guide the reader. However, the use of linking words is sometimes repetitive or slightly mechanical. Additionally, some sentences are loosely connected, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between the benefits and drawbacks of technology feels a bit abrupt. Improving the variety and precision of your cohesive devices will help the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'online shopping,' 'product availability,' and 'retail.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'dwelve in each and every category,' 'vast size of collections,' and 'maintainence of the store.' Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'eassay' and 'bussiness.' To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure you are using words in their correct context to convey your meaning more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a positive step. However, the essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('shops... gets less customer'), incorrect verb tenses ('The store was use to be'), and article usage ('an positive impact'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity of your argument. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and tense consistency will significantly improve your score.
