Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, it has been a growing trend that buyers purchase and browse products on online selling platforms rather than going to buy in a physical location. There is a plethora of benefits to following this way of shopping. Thus, I firmly agree with the above statement, and the following paragraphs will further elucidate reasons with pertinent examples to support the stated assertion.

To begin with, there is no denying that online buyers are getting a wide range of collections on websites; thus, they like to save time and check out the products at home. And they do not want to travel to physical stores to check out the same things which are already available and easily accessible on online websites. For example, the company Amazon is well-known and popular nowadays because it offers free home delivery within 3-4 days. Apart from that, it provides a variety of discounts and promotions for people who buy products online during festivals and summer vacations. Furthermore, free return options are provided by many online selling brands, so individuals prefer to go through a hassle-free process of online buying.

On the contrary, many people still go to purchase from stores in shopping malls. The foremost reason behind that is that they are not only getting free trial rooms there but also the option to try clothes before they decide to buy eventually. For instance, customers choose to go to an outlet store where they want to check the perfect fitting and quality of the product.

To recapitulate, it is widely accepted that online purchasing is an efficient and convenient way to buy things, and its advantages easily overcome its few drawbacks. So, I opine that we should encourage others to go for online shopping as it provides a range of options and collections.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by stating a clear position. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While you provide reasons for the growth of online shopping (convenience, discounts, delivery), the argument that this will lead to the closure of ALL physical shops is not fully explored or balanced. You mention that people still visit malls for trials, but you do not sufficiently address the counter-argument regarding whether this will prevent the total closure of physical stores. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments directly address the extreme nature of the prompt (the word 'all') and provide a more nuanced discussion on the future of retail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Apart from that', 'Furthermore', and 'On the contrary' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the link between the convenience of online shopping and the eventual total closure of physical stores could be more tightly managed to improve the flow of your argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the main points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'plethora', 'elucidate', and 'pertinent'. However, there are some instances of slightly unnatural word choices or phrasing, such as 'getting a wide range of collections' and 'go to purchase from stores'. While these do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on more natural collocations and avoid over-using generic verbs like 'get' or 'go'. Expanding your range to include more topic-specific vocabulary related to retail and economics would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some minor grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'it has been a growing trend that buyers purchase' (which is slightly awkward) and 'the advantages easily overcome its few drawbacks' (where 'outweigh' would be more precise). Punctuation is generally accurate, and your sentences are easy to follow. To achieve a higher band, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice, while ensuring that your control remains consistent to minimize errors.
