Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today’s world, more and more shops are closing because of rise in online shopping, I completely agree with this statement.

The first and foremost reason for this is nowadays, people love to just stay home and explore the options they have. Everyone is becoming more leisure and they do not like to go out and do shopping because technology is increasing so they can buy everything online. Even though they used to return the product more frequently because of size and everything still they prefer to buy it online. In online shopping there are more options we can see rather than exploring 10 shops. If we go to shops to shops there are chances that even after spending whole day out we can’t choose anything good.

Second reason is time. Today, everyone is so busy in earning money they prefer to do everything online. Pupils don’t even have time to spend with their loved ones so they prefer to shop online for them and for their families. In addition, in local shops there are chances that we cannot find in our price range whereas online we can use filter to what range we want so that is a plus point. We can also shop medicines online so if in our family some is living far away from us we can just pay for them and through online shipping we can give them. Examples, few days ago my sister was sick and she lives in another city so we cannot take care of her but when I got the new that she is sick I suddenly shopped medicine online and gave her address and that reached to her within a day.

In conclusion, I completely agree with that that in future the growth of online shopping will increase more.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, but the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you provide reasons such as convenience and time-saving, the argument that all shops will close is an extreme position that lacks nuance. The examples provided, such as the personal anecdote about medicine, are relevant but could be more effectively linked to the broader economic argument regarding the total closure of physical retail. To improve, focus on exploring the counter-arguments or the limitations of online shopping to provide a more balanced and sophisticated discussion, which would demonstrate a higher level of task development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'The first and foremost reason' and 'Second reason' are functional but basic. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'Even though they used to return the product more frequently because of size and everything still they prefer to buy it online.' Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between your supporting points would enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. You rely on general terms like 'everything', 'good', and 'stuff', which limits the impact of your arguments. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'becoming more leisure' and 'shops to shops'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more academic and topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'e-commerce', 'retail landscape', 'consumer behavior', or 'logistical efficiency'. Expanding your range of synonyms and focusing on more natural word combinations will significantly improve your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'some is living'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'I got the new that she is sick'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma splices in the introduction and body paragraphs. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence boundary control and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy will be essential for your progress.
