Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, shopping is one of the most famous leisure activities among people. The increased of window shopping is likely to become a common trend and negatively impact on retail businesses in towns. I completely agree with the view and will discuss in the subsequent paragraphs.

To begin with, buying from shopping websites is convenient than purchasing goods from local stores. In other words, online shopping platforms offer to order items in just a single click without going one shop to others. Individuals can sit on their couch and select items what they want to buy from online applications. This practice is a very useful for those who have a hectic schedule and do not have time to visit stores for getting their products. For example, the majority of teenagers prefer purchasing their goods from online platforms, such as Amazon, Myntra and Filpkart. Therefore, shopping from online websites is expected to be more popular and lead to shun down local shops.

Another advantage of window shopping is numerous options are available which can allow consumers to buy the best products after reviewing of them. However, in physical shopping, they have limited choices of international products which can easily find on online platforms. Besides, this habit can be budget friendly because buyers no longer need to drive for shopping as well as they can compare with different well-known shopping websites prices. Hence, this trend not only has ample of options of products but also saves money.

In conclusion, increasing trend of online shopping will lead to close of local markets. In my opinion, it will happen in the near future due to conveniences, infinity of choices and financially efficient.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant, focusing on convenience and variety as the primary drivers for the decline of physical shops. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, you mention that online shopping is 'budget friendly' but do not fully explain how this impacts the survival of local businesses beyond a brief mention. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more detailed reasoning or specific real-world implications. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, though it repeats points already made without adding new depth.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In other words', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'In other words' being used to introduce a new point rather than rephrasing. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are a bit abrupt. Improving the flow between ideas by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this practice', 'this habit') is always clear will help improve the overall cohesion of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, using terms like 'hectic schedule', 'retail businesses', and 'leisure activities'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors. For example, you use 'window shopping' to refer to online shopping, which is incorrect; 'window shopping' typically refers to looking at goods in physical store displays without the intent to buy. You also use 'shun down' instead of 'shut down' or 'close down'. To improve, focus on learning the precise context in which specific phrases are used and avoid literal translations or incorrect terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The increased of window shopping'), incorrect preposition usage (e.g., 'without going one shop to others'), and missing articles or incorrect word forms (e.g., 'lead to close of local markets' instead of 'the closure of'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like article usage and verb forms will be beneficial.
