Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, many people have argued that increase in number of online shopping platforms will lead to closure of all shops in towns and cities. Although I agree that growth of online shopping is rapid, I believe that it might not lead to complete shutdown of the shops.

One major reason why I agree with this view is that Online shopping platforms provide variety of product with different colors and patterns which are not even available instore. This is because shops have limited access to space to store their products . For example, I went to buy a new shirt for a special occasion. I visited many store in search of decent pattern. I was not satisfied as their were limited options available . As a result, I have to search and order online, as they have different sizes and colors available as per my convenience.

However, on the other hand I disagree with this view as i had to returned the shirt i ordered . This is because piece of clothing was torn from bottom end. For example, the backend of the shirt was torn from the bottom due to some misplacement of package while delivery. As a result, I had to send it back.

In conclusion, although Online shopping is convenient and have mass number of choices, I believe that Shops are somewhere important to visit and check your product before buying for mental satisfaction. Therefore, growth of online shopping would not lead to termination of all shops in neighborhood .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the total closure of physical shops. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The first body paragraph provides a relevant argument regarding product variety, but the second body paragraph focuses on a personal anecdote about a damaged shirt, which is a narrow example that does not fully explore the broader economic or social reasons why physical shops might survive. While the position is consistent, the arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main point, but the overall depth of analysis is limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Although', 'However', and 'As a result', which help guide the reader through the argument. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. For instance, 'As a result' is used twice in close proximity, which affects the flow. Additionally, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother to better connect the counter-argument to the final conclusion. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the management of cohesion lacks the flexibility required for higher bands.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'online shopping platforms' and 'termination of all shops'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'mass number of choices' instead of 'a wide variety of choices' or 'a vast array of options'. Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'shops are somewhere important to visit'. To improve, the student should focus on more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include missing articles ('increase in number', 'closure of all shops'), subject-verb agreement issues ('Online shopping... have mass number'), and tense inconsistencies ('I had to returned'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy is recommended.
