Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed the prompt and maintained a clear position throughout. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention convenience and variety, the argument that all shops will close is a strong claim that requires more nuanced exploration. For instance, you could have discussed the social role of physical shops or the limitations of online shopping (e.g., the inability to try on clothes or immediate availability). The ideas are relevant but remain at a surface level, which prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure you provide more detailed explanations and counter-arguments to fully explore the implications of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However', 'On the contrary', and 'In addition to this', to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by repetitive phrasing and some mechanical transitions. For example, the phrase 'There are plenty of reasons' is used twice in close proximity. Additionally, some sentences feel disjointed because the logical progression between the benefits of online shopping and the total closure of physical stores is not fully bridged. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'technological advancement', 'platforms', and 'refund policy'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'skyrocketed' (which is usually intransitive in this context), 'headache process', and 'different-different'. These errors occasionally draw attention to the language rather than the content. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding informal or redundant expressions. Expanding your range of academic vocabulary will also help you express your ideas with greater sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('the local shops... is disappearing', 'The reasons... is justified') and incorrect verb forms ('which under lying', 'which further escalate'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the fluency of the essay. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency. Practising the construction of complex sentences will also help you demonstrate better control over your grammatical range.
