Student answer (Band 6.0)

In an increasingly interconnected world, buying stuff online is a commonly witnessed phenomenon. Some parts of society argue that all shops in cities and towns will close because of the incline in the online shopping. In my opinion, I strongly agree with the above statement as it may bears certain merits.

To commence with, if shoppers purchase items through internet, it leads them to save some time. To substantiate, purchasers do not need to travel to buy a stuff because online shopping enables people to receive items at their residence. To cite an example, a report from Univeristy of Toronto shows that the percentage of people purchasing objects online elevated by 22 percent because individuals find online shopping more convenient. Hence, purchasing objects from website is helpful in saving time.

Probing ahead, purchasing articles online not only provides variety but also enables people to save money. In other words, online purchases provides opportunity to explore more articles. Additionally, the buyers get a chance to buy objects at cheap prices because they are directly from sellers and do not include any third party. To quote an instance, the CEO of the Zara mentioned in his interview that 65 percent of their sales are done online because they have more articles available on their website as compared to stores. Therefore, people are able to save money and choose the best product.

To recapitulate, people may get scammed during online shopping but such circumstances being rare, online shopping enables buyers to save their time as well as money. In addition, purchasers get an opportunity to compare product from different manufacturers and buy the best one.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt, but the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you clearly state your position, the argument focuses almost exclusively on the benefits of online shopping rather than directly addressing the core of the prompt: whether this will lead to the total closure of all physical shops. The argument lacks a counter-perspective or a nuanced discussion on the future of physical retail (e.g., experiential shopping or community hubs). To reach a higher band, you need to explore the implications of your position more deeply and ensure the link between online growth and the total disappearance of physical stores is more logically substantiated.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with clear paragraphing. You use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Probing ahead', and 'To recapitulate' to guide the reader. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or unnatural in an academic context. The progression of ideas within paragraphs is generally clear, although the connection between the evidence provided (e.g., the Zara CEO example) and the conclusion that all shops will close is not always tightly linked. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences could be more smoothly connected to improve the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'interconnected', 'substantiate', and 'phenomenon'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'incline in the online shopping' (should be 'increase') and 'buy a stuff' (should be 'buy items' or 'make a purchase'). The repetition of 'purchasing objects' and 'articles' limits the sophistication of your writing. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and varying your vocabulary to avoid repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'it may bears' (should be 'it may bear'), 'through internet' (should be 'through the internet'), and 'online purchases provides' (subject-verb agreement error). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to enhance the accuracy of your writing.
