Student answer (Band 6.5)

In today's scenario, the trend of online shopping is increasing very fast. The growth of online shopping can be a result of shutting down the shops in cities and rural areas. I agree with the given notion that it can take the lead in the future, but it can not overshadow shopping in market shops.

Firstly, no doubt, youngsters are giving more preference to online shopping, and the main reason behind it is that people can get more variety while they are shopping online. They can choose any colour in the same design of cloth. For instance, last month I planned to go on vacation, but I was unable to find good dresses in the shops near my city. Then I chose to shop online, where I bought the dresses according to my choice, which was quite easy. Moreover, buying anything online is also time-saving for people who do not have time to go outside for shopping. Hence, workaholic people can easily buy anything from online websites, which saves their time, and they can use that time wisely.

Apart from this, shopping online also gives more discount then shopping in person. For example, people who join the online membership of any brand, they start receiving online discounts, which they can use for their next shopping. It creates more interest in online shopping than shopping in-person. However, even though online shopping is more convenient, it can not shut down the market shops. Because some people do not believe in online shopping. They only like to buy things that they can touch and see in front of them.

In conclusion, I would like to say that online shopping is more trending these days, but it can not replace the shops in cities and towns.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You acknowledge the growth of online shopping while arguing that physical stores will persist. The ideas are relevant, such as the variety offered online and the tactile preference of some shoppers. However, the development is somewhat limited; the arguments could be more deeply explored with more sophisticated reasoning regarding the social or economic roles of physical shops. The conclusion is a bit brief and could have better summarised the main points to reinforce your position. Overall, you have addressed all parts of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', 'Apart from this', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. The referencing is clear, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the text. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that the relationship between sentences is more nuanced.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'workaholic', 'convenient', and 'overshadow'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'taking the lead' in this context or 'shutting down the shops' (which sounds slightly unnatural). You attempt to use less common vocabulary, which is good, but there is room for more precision and sophistication. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the flexibility and natural control required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'can be a result of shutting down the shops' (which is logically confusing) and 'gives more discount then' (should be 'than'). There are also minor punctuation and article usage issues. You have good control over basic structures, but the frequency of errors in more complex sentences prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
