Student answer (Band 5.5)

The trend of online shopping is increasing day by day which might be leads to closing all shops in future. I agree with this view and this essay will explain all the reasons below.

In today’s time, so many shopping apps like Myntra, Amazon,Nykaa,Flipcart are available for clothes, cosmetics, groceries, accessories, medicines etc. So from tiny pin to large furniture-everything is available on these apps. You can get cheap as well as branded products according to your needs. You can compare the prices for the same product on different media. In addition to these, you can see much varieties as compared to shops. So you have multiple options to choose from. In festivals, they give us an amazing deals on all the products which is helpful for us economically also. Plus, we can buy anything from our house. There is no need to go out and buy which saves our time and travelling cost too. If you don’t like the product you can exchange and return it easily. There is no peer pressure of buying anything unlike stores. In recent times, we can get our products with in ten minutes on the apps like Blinkit or Zepto.

Although, there are some disadvantages too like you can not try these products n then buy them. You can not check the quality of materials. But I think these will resolve in the future. Sometimes the return process might be annoying and their supporting staff are not co-operative unlike offline shopping.

Even though there are disadvantages, I think their benefits are more which may tends to closure of all the stores in town and cities soon.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that online shopping will lead to the closure of physical stores. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you list many advantages of online shopping, such as convenience and variety, you do not fully explore the counter-arguments or the long-term economic implications of why physical stores might disappear entirely. The argument is somewhat repetitive, focusing heavily on the benefits of apps rather than the specific impact on the retail landscape. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced analysis regarding the future of physical retail, perhaps discussing the 'experience' economy or the limitations of online-only models.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression within them is sometimes disjointed. You use some cohesive devices like 'In addition to these' and 'Although', but the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition between the benefits of online shopping and the disadvantages is abrupt. Furthermore, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'But I think these will resolve in the future', where 'these' refers back to a list of disadvantages but lacks a clear antecedent. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. You rely on common terms like 'amazing deals', 'cheap', and 'good'. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'economically' and 'co-operative', there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'which might be leads to' and 'much varieties'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary. Avoid informal phrasing like 'from tiny pin to large furniture' and aim for more formal expressions to better suit the essay format.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'which might be leads to', 'which may tends to') and incorrect preposition usage (e.g., 'with in ten minutes'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring correct tense usage will significantly improve your score.
