Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is believed by the members of society that increasing popularity of online shopping would would force local shops to close. While this trend may limit the revenue of local stores, I believe it can not become the prime cause of their closing.

The most prominent reason is the ease of access for consumers. This is because offline shopping requires physical presence and sufficient time, whereas people can easily order the required-items at their fingertips. For example, citizens of many countries are excessively buy products from online platforms using the applications on their phone while utilizing the time to complete other tasks, such as cleaning home as well as finishing office work. As a result, due to this positive driving shift, in forthcoming future, people may completely stop visiting stores on their own. Therefore, local shops will shut because of increasing usage of online shopping.

Although the trend of shopping from web has been upgrading life-style of individuals, local shops may not close entirely. To elaborate it, since digital literacy is must before using apps or websites over the phone, which is hard for older generations. To illustrate, in most part of India, especially in rural areas, where having a smartphone phone equipped with internet is seen as status of symbol as not everyone can afford to pay for those. Consequently, ordering stuffs online is nearly impossible for them, and they mainly rely on local shops for daily purchases which leads local shops to open.

In conclusion, even though online shopping has shifted the way of daily shopping among a members of the community, I believe local shops will not close permanently. However, shops may find less customers than usual due to this trend but never be replaced.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed the prompt and maintained a clear position throughout. However, your argument is somewhat contradictory. In the second paragraph, you argue that online shopping will lead to shops closing, but in the third paragraph, you argue they will not. While you attempt to balance the view, the conclusion remains slightly ambiguous. To reach a higher band, ensure your main ideas are consistently developed without self-contradiction. The examples provided, such as the mention of rural India, are relevant and help support your position, though the explanation could be more tightly linked to the prompt's core question about the future of all shops.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To elaborate,' 'Consequently,' and 'In conclusion' to link your thoughts. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the logical flow between the second and third paragraphs is slightly jarring due to the conflicting arguments presented. Referencing is generally clear, but ensure that your cohesive devices are used to strengthen the argument rather than just acting as signposts. Overall, the structure is sufficient to follow your line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'digital literacy,' 'excessively,' and 'forthcoming future.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choices and minor errors, such as 'ordering stuffs' (stuff is uncountable), 'status of symbol' (should be 'status symbol'), and 'lead local shops to open' (which is logically confusing). To improve, focus on collocations and the correct usage of uncountable nouns. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'would would' (repetition), 'citizens... are excessively buy' (incorrect verb form), and 'since digital literacy is must' (missing article). Additionally, there are punctuation issues, such as the comma splice in the third paragraph. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
