Online shopping is becoming more prominent among young people. This is because it is convenient. As a result, individuals prefer to shop online rather than going outside. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear position that online shopping will eventually lead to the closure of local shops. The main body paragraphs explore reasons such as convenience, discounts, and time-saving aspects, alongside a counter-perspective discussing family bonding and product authentication. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat superficial. For instance, the example provided ('a recent study shows that 50% people go for shopping to check the authentication of product') lacks specific context and depth. While the position is clear throughout, the arguments would benefit from further extension and more precise elaboration. Consequently, this performance fits the Band 6 descriptor well, as it addresses all parts with relevant ideas, though some are under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement and follows a standard four-paragraph structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as the advantages of online shopping versus the enduring appeal of local markets. However, cohesion is frequently mechanical and repetitive, relying heavily on transitional phrases like 'This is because', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and punctuation errors around conjunctions (e.g., 'Moreover, there') disrupt the smooth flow of the text. Because the logical progression is apparent yet marred by repetitive and faulty cohesive devices, a Band 5.5 score is appropriate, balancing the clear overall organisation with mechanical linking.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common terms such as 'prominent', 'authentication', and 'digital market'. However, there are numerous spelling errors throughout the response, including 'availble', 'throgh', 'enogh', 'rathe', 'strss', 'diffrent', 'varity', 'perosn', 'prefers', 'athentication', 'conclusin', 'saing', and 'eveything'. These spelling inaccuracies, alongside occasional awkward word choices, indicate a lack of precision. Although communication is not seriously impeded, the frequency of lexical and spelling errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. This performance aligns with the Band 5 descriptor, reflecting a limited but minimally adequate range with noticeable spelling errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional-style reasoning (e.g., 'which they will not get online'). However, grammatical control is inconsistent. There are several structural and punctuation issues, such as run-on sentences and missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'online shopping.I strongly agree', 'Moreover, there', 'family bonding, that can never get'). Additionally, prepositional errors and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'local shops will runs', 'go for shopping') are evident. While simple sentences are generally accurate, complex structures often contain errors. This warrants a Band 5.5, reflecting a mix of simple and complex sentence forms with frequent errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.
