Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and well-developed position on whether online shopping will cause all physical shops to close. The writer disagrees with this statement and supports their opinion with relevant arguments, such as the tactile nature of shopping, the social spaces provided by malls, and the experiential services offered by physical venues like cafes and restaurants. While some ideas are generalized, such as mentioning that offline shopping supports small businesses, the overall response covers the prompt effectively. The position is maintained from the introduction through to the conclusion, ensuring that the central topic is thoroughly discussed and that the task requirements are fully satisfied.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear overall arrangement with an introduction, distinct body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. The writer attempts to organize ideas logically, utilizing transitional markers such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In addition' to guide the reader through opposing viewpoints. However, the use of cohesive devices is at times mechanical or repetitive, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the vague transition 'Because of that many people buy...' Paragraphing is utilized appropriately to separate the advantages of online shopping from the enduring benefits of offline stores. Overall progression is present, but tighter logical transitions would elevate the organizational quality of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for discussing the topic of commerce and retail, employing terms such as 'alternative', 'convenient', 'retailers', and 'texture'. However, there are noticeable lexical and spelling inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'In recent year' instead of 'years', 'Numerous individual' instead of 'individuals', 'trend' instead of 'trend', and 'cloths' instead of 'clothes'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they reflect a limited precision and occasional poor word choice, placing the vocabulary firmly in the mid-range category where less common items are attempted with inconsistent accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and coordination, such as 'Internet shopping is very time saving and convenient for those people who does not like to go out for shopping.' However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent due to frequent errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('people who does not'), missing plural markers ('Many individual'), capitalization errors ('i strongly disagree'), and awkward phrasing like 'this thing you can't get in online shopping.' Punctuation and article usage also show persistent flaws. These errors occasionally cause slight difficulty for the reader, though the core meaning generally remains understandable.
