Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, online shopping has become a favourite way to shop. Some people believe that it can not lead to every shops in metro cities and suburbs to close, while others disagree with this idea. In this essay, I will explain why I disagree with that online shopping will one day lead to all shops in cities and towns to close and provide examples to support my vision.
Firstly, People have been preferring to shop by visiting the store. This is because trust, and customer satisfaction. Customer and vendor shares a mutual respect. For instance, customer priortise trying on clothes before buying it. They would like to put on different style, colour and size of clothes before choosing the final item. Therefore, it is clear that online shopping will not lead physical shops to close worldwide.
Additionally, time is a major factor in shopping. The timeframe of visiting a store and buying a preferred clothing is much more shorter than shopping online and waiting to deliver. On the other hand, people believe that online shopping applications such as Amazon, Shopify and Facebook marketplace will one day lead all shops to close in cities because of their promotion and marketing. However, this argument is flawed because they could not sustain the loss by promoting discount and capital expenditure cost. As a result, I believe that online shopping will not lead to all shops in towns and cities to close.
To conclude, while it is true that online shopping extends significant discount, the benfits of shopping in store such as trust and relationship between customer and vendor far outweigh the drawback. Therefore, I strongly disagree with the statment that the rise in online shopping will one day lead to all shops to close.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student addresses the prompt directly and clearly states a personal position throughout the essay. The ideas presented, such as the importance of customer trust, physical touch in purchasing clothing, and the limitations of online retail sustainability, are relevant to the debate. However, some arguments remain somewhat limited or under-developed. For instance, the discussion regarding promotional costs and sustainability is introduced abruptly and lacks sufficient depth or concrete real-world evidence. The conclusion accurately reflects the main arguments. Overall, the response fulfills the requirements of the task by addressing all parts of the prompt with a clear position, fitting comfortably within the Band 6 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised adequately to separate distinct points, such as the preference for physical stores and the factor of time. However, cohesion is occasionally faulty or mechanical. For example, transitional phrases like 'On the other hand' and 'However' are used awkwardly to contrast arguments that do not directly oppose each other in meaning. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'they could not sustain the loss', where the antecedent for 'they' is ambiguous. Overall, the logical progression is present, but mechanical cohesive devices place this response at a Band 6 level.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully communicating everyday ideas related to commerce and shopping. There are attempts to use less common items and subject-specific vocabulary, such as 'capital expenditure cost', 'customer satisfaction', and 'mutual respect'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as writing 'every shops' instead of 'all shops', 'the timeframe ... is much more shorter' featuring a double comparative, and 'extends significant discount' instead of 'offers significant discounts'. Spelling is generally accurate, but these lexical errors and awkward collocations place the response firmly in the Band 6 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over clause structuring. Examples of complex sentences include 'In this essay, I will explain why I disagree...' and 'while it is true that online shopping extends significant discount...'. However, there are persistent grammatical errors throughout the text. These include subject-verb agreement errors like 'Customer and vendor shares' and 'every shops', unnecessary articles ('the benfits'), and misuse of comparative forms ('much more shorter'). While these errors are noticeable and require some rereading, they rarely impede overall communication, warranting a solid Band 6 score.
