Student answer (Band 6.0)
The rapid growing trend of online shoping resulting in closure of all the shops in different towns and cities. It might apparently feel to be the case but I strongly disagree with this because physical shopping cannot cease to exist completely as some products still require to be physically inspected before making a purchase.
Although, I am a big fan of online shopping due to it's time-saving attribute and also the convenience to explore a huge variety of items in a shorter span of time but I disagree that it will result in the complete closure of all the shops because there are plenty of products that require a hands-on experience before you can finalize their purchase. In addition, most of the people, when buying an expensive product like a big TV for their living room or a luxury bedset for the bedroom they try to spend their time to explore the available options and inspect them physically so they can choose the best product that is worth spending such amount of money because there is a possibility that their purchase can go wrong by just relying on pictures and reviews of an online product listing. Also, there are a few products that can be bought online easily like a tech gadget from a reputable brand or a tee shirt that you need to wear casually, but for purchases that require more attention-to-detail or the ones that are not made by yet-so-popular brand, physical shops are an essentiality. For example if I need to buy a tee shirt for daily wear I can consider buying it online but if I want to buy a wedding dress for myself I will go to a physical shop so I can choose the perfect one after trying it out. Another similar example is when buying a car that you don't know much about, you would need to take a test drive before finalizing the purchase and this is the reason why car showrooms can never be completely.
In conclusion, in my opinion online shopping may lead to closing some of the shops in towns and cities but physical shops are still a necessity so they can never be completely shut down.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and well-developed position on whether online shopping will completely replace physical stores. The writer presents relevant arguments, such as the need for physical inspection of expensive or luxury items and the requirement for test drives or trying on clothes. Ideas are extended with appropriate examples, such as buying a wedding dress or a car. The response demonstrates a clear, coherent viewpoint throughout without wandering off-topic, aligning well with the Band 7 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The writer uses various cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'In addition', 'Also', and 'In conclusion' to connect ideas, although some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive in structure. Paragraphing is used appropriately, dividing the introduction, body arguments, and conclusion distinctly. Referencing is generally clear, helping the reader follow the progression of arguments from general statements to specific examples. This corresponds well to a Band 6.5 or 7.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate and sufficiently wide range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'hands-on experience', 'attention-to-detail', and 'reputable brand'. There are some minor word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'growing trend' instead of 'growing trend', 'shoping' (spelling error), and the phrase 'completely' missing a noun at the end of the second paragraph ('completely shut down'). However, these errors do not impede communication, allowing the response to comfortably fit the Band 6 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are notable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as fragment sentences in the opening ('The rapid growing trend... resulting in...'), missing verbs, and incorrect punctuation. For instance, the sentence ending with 'completely' in the second paragraph lacks an object or adjective complement. Despite these recurring errors, they rarely impede overall communication, placing the response securely in the Band 6 range.
