Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the glob of criticism, a group of people think that over the past decade, e-commerce has expanded rapidly and people believe that physical shops in towns will eventually disappear. This may raise a range of argument from the both sides, however, in my opinion, I strongly agree with this and will discuss my claim in further paragraphs.
The foremost agrument to justify my stand is that, many people are working full-time and they hardly get time to go out for shopping, sometimes going out for shopping takes longer time than usual so they find order online much easier option and this trend could force a large number of shops to close. To cite an example, according to a report of "Times Now" 80% of citizens are purchasing everything online in Africa.
Furthermore, online applications and websites are giving more discounts than in-person shops because they don't have any rent or staff costs to cover and that attract consumer to buy things online rather going in-person. Moreover, other reason to prove my point is that customers get more options to choose from when they are buying and some online companies come up with same day delivery or in 10 minutes delivery so if customer need something urgently they can buy it online and will be deliver to their door step.
In conclusion, because online shopping is faster, cheaper and more convenient, I strongly believe it will increasingly replace traditional shops in towns and cities, which clearly demostrate the validity of my point.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing with the prompt. The overall argument is extended, particularly regarding the convenience and cost advantages of online shopping over physical stores. However, some ideas show the characteristics of the half-band, where they are slightly under-developed or rely on unsupported generalizations. For instance, the reference to an 80% statistic regarding citizens in Africa buying everything online lacks proper elaboration and context. To reach the next level, the student should ensure that all main points are fully extended with more specific, realistic examples rather than broad assertions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing working hours and financial incentives, and concluding effectively. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to connect ideas, which aligns well with the requirements of this band. Nevertheless, referencing is occasionally mechanical, and the progression between sentences could be smoother. To achieve a higher score, the student needs to employ referencing more fluidly and ensure that cohesive devices are integrated naturally without feeling formulaic.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'e-commerce', 'convenient', and 'incentives'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'in the glob of criticism' instead of 'in the context of current criticism', and 'order online' instead of 'ordering online'. Spelling and word-form errors, including 'agrument' and 'demostrate', also occur, though they do not impede overall communication. To move up, the student must broaden their vocabulary range and improve precision in collocations and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The text demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, with attempts at relative clauses and conditional structures. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as run-on sentences ('...online applications and websites are giving more discounts than in-person shops because they don't have any rent or staff costs to cover and that attract consumer...') and article omission or misuse ('longer time', 'to buy things online rather going in-person'). However, these errors rarely impede communication and represent a solid foundation at this level. To progress, the student should focus on reducing basic grammatical slips and enhancing control over complex sentence structures.
