Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an ongoing debate about whether all shops in towns and cities will be closed in near future due to growth in online shopping. While some people believe that online buying has been increased at its peak level, it will lead to no stores will be available in the market. I totaly agree with this phenomenon due to its benefits like conveniency and time saving nature.

The primary reason for my view is that conveniency. Online shopping provides an opportunity to order online without visiting shops in-person with lucrative deals and free delivery options. This does not only offers great money saving techniques by browsing on all different websites but also can be done by sitting on sofa at your ease. Additionally, customers can also check product pictures, sizes and other alternatives. Moreover, Many brands launch new collections and updated products online before they arrive in-store to increase digital traffic and conversion. Another reason is that to uplift online presence brands also launch some online exclusive collections, which attractes shoppers to buy online only. Furthermore, free and longer period return policies convince them to buy and return if it does not work. For example, Aritzia always offer additional 10% for online orders on the latest collection catch buyers attention.

Another important point is time-saving nature. Online ordering sytstem has made life easy, everything is available. No time for cooking order food online get it delivered, and share that time with family. Short on grocery, order on grocery store application, will be delivered in an hour. It enable people to order on digital platforms and pick it up on flexible time, which will save money by not buying unncessary items instore, but also save time by not visiting store. For instance, many applications are available digitally, where you can place order on auto replenishment such as milk, eggs and other essential products.

In conclusion, I believe if the brands will continue promoting offers and discounts, people will shop online only which will result into shops and small business closing in towns and cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and consistent position in agreement with the prompt. The main ideas regarding convenience and time-saving are generally relevant and supported with some explanation and examples, such as mentioning the brand Aritzia and auto-replenishment apps. However, some ideas are under-developed or lack sufficient extension, such as the brief mention of digital traffic and exclusive collections, which are stated rather than fully explored. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to provide more fully elaborated explanations and deeper analysis of how online shopping specifically impacts physical stores across towns and cities, avoiding generalisations and offering more comprehensive supporting details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression of ideas across paragraphs, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs focused on convenience and time-saving, and ending with a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. However, cohesion at the sentence level is sometimes mechanical or faulty, with abrupt transitions and occasional referencing issues, such as 'For example, Aritzia always offer additional 10% for online orders on the latest collection catch buyers attention.' To achieve a higher level of cohesion, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices naturally and ensure seamless logical connections between sentences and clauses without relying on repetitive transitional markers.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as 'lucrative deals', 'conversion', and 'auto replenishment'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form throughout the text, including phrases like 'conveniency' instead of convenience, 'buying has been increased at its peak level' instead of reaching its peak, and 'I totaly agree'. Spelling errors also occur, but they do not impede communication. To move up to the next band, the student must expand their lexical repertoire, improve precision in word choice and collocations, and demonstrate better control over word forms and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use relative clauses and conditional structures, such as 'I believe if the brands will continue promoting offers...'. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that surface throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Aritzia always offer'), tense errors ('will be closed in near future'), missing articles ('on grocery store application'), and awkward sentence fragments ('No time for cooking order food online get it delivered'). While these errors rarely impede overall communication, they represent a typical profile of a response containing persistent grammatical slips. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to produce a greater proportion of error-free sentences and exercise firmer control over complex structures, articles, and prepositions.
