Student answer (Band 6.0)

All shops in towns and cities will close one day because of the growth of online shopping. I am completely disagree with this statement. Offline shopping is also have their own benefits including we can see the product before making any decision of buying as well as it is very convenient for after sales services such as return, and exchange of the product.

First and foremost, mostly people visit to any store for shopping they can try the product first whether it is right make for them or not. Sense of touch, viewing of product in-person can make the decision fast. As a result, offline shopping makes customer more satisfy for longer use. For example, from decades people likes to try their clothing in trials rooms with multiple mirrors, whether it is suiting on them and it is comfortable to wear before making any decisions.

Moreover, after completing the shopping it is very convenient on offline stores for customers to return the products or exchange them because sometimes in online shopping these services are very difficult. In addition to this, people manytimes do the online shopping for any particular occassion but, if they wants to exchange the product it is very time consuming. On the other hand, people can do offline shopping sometimes on the same day of any occassion. For instance, in my personal experience I bought one luggage bag for travelling. But when I recieved the bag it was short from my expectations and I raised the refund and my money came back after couple of weeks, due to which I purchased the bag offline.

In conclusion, shops in towns and cities still have their significant features including experience of in-person shopping and convenience of post sales services. Although online shopping is growing day by day but, it will not lead to closing of offline shopping permanently.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and well-maintained position against the prompt's statement. Main ideas are presented and supported with reasons and examples, such as trying on clothes in trial rooms and sharing a personal experience about purchasing and returning a luggage bag. However, the development tends to over-generalise slightly in places, and some arguments are repetitive, which keeps the response from reaching a higher band. For instance, the discussion on returns and exchanges spans multiple sentences without introducing new dimensions of support. To move higher, the ideas would need more fully extended, nuanced explanations and a wider variety of specific examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response demonstrates a clear overall progression with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to structure the text logically, meeting the requirements of the lower band. However, referencing is sometimes unclear, and the mechanical overuse or slight misuse of cohesive phrases prevents it from achieving a higher level of fluid progression. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct main points, but internal transitions between sentences occasionally feel abrupt, meaning that cohesion requires more skillful management.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'convenient', 'in-person', and 'time-consuming'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and collocation that reflect the constraints of this band. Examples include 'mostly people visit' instead of 'most people visit', 'satisfy' instead of 'satisfied', and 'short from my expectations' instead of 'falling short of my expectations'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they highlight a restricted lexical flexibility and frequent inaccuracies when attempting more sophisticated expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use subordination and relative clauses. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'I am completely disagree' instead of 'I completely disagree', 'Offline shopping is also have' instead of 'Offline shopping also has', and incorrect preposition usage like 'on offline stores' instead of 'in offline stores'. Punctuation errors also appear, including unnecessary comma splices. While these errors occur regularly, they rarely impede overall communication, placing the grammatical control firmly in this band.
