Student answer (Band 5.0)

The increased trend of online shopping has become a matter of concern for certain number of people who believe that it would shut down the stores running in different towns and cities.I would definitely take this in consideration as many small business ran out their regular customers due to rapid purchase made online rather than visiting stores in person .

There are numerous reasons as to why people prefer to buy stuff online such as getting access to multiple sections on a single platform, saving commutes, using free delivery options and much more. To ellaborate, it reduces the additional domestic stress and make workers more efficient and productive in their job roles as shopping online becomes much more convinient. For instance, the daily groccery, dairy, clothing ,sports and all basics needs could be accessed by a single click which ultimately saves there hustle to market areas.

On contrary, visiting stores do give individuals opportunity to look clearly and choose their stuff by checking out each section and item with a keen interest. Moreover, this adds on to customer satisfaction where they make there own choice by personal visit which on other hand could not be implemented when buying items online but this involves spending long hours in shopping centers. For instance, for in store shppoing one needs to go through multiple aisle searching for a particular item and then do all the checkouts and drive back home. Hence, making the system a complete hustel for a worker.

Although, instore shopping gives in person access to completely examine items available online but online shopping provides much better convinience and variety which could be delivered on door steps even from miles apart.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to discuss whether online shopping will cause all traditional stores to close, the position taken is somewhat contradictory and lacks clarity throughout the essay. In the introduction, the writer states that they agree shops will shut down, yet the body paragraphs present a balanced discussion highlighting the advantages of both online and in-store shopping without firmly maintaining or developing a clear overarching stance. Furthermore, the ideas presented are somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the mention that workers become more efficient because shopping online saves domestic stress is introduced without sufficient extension or relevant examples to support how this directly leads to the closure of physical retail stores. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to present a fully developed, consistent position with well-supported arguments for each main idea presented.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation evident in the essay, including the use of basic paragraphing to separate different viewpoints, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. The transition between paragraphs feels abrupt, and the logical flow connecting the premise of online shopping growth to the closure of physical stores is frequently interrupted. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate, repetitive, or inadequate for guiding the reader smoothly through the argument. For example, transition phrases like 'To ellaborate' and 'On contrary' are used mechanically rather than flexibly to show clear relationships between ideas. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun 'this' in the third paragraph referring broadly to multiple preceding concepts without precise antecedents. To improve, the writer should ensure each paragraph builds logically upon the previous one and employ a wider, more natural range of cohesive devices to link sentences and paragraphs seamlessly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer demonstrates an ability to communicate basic ideas related to commerce, such as 'online shopping', 'platform', and 'delivery options', but the range is restricted. There are noticeable lexical and spelling errors that occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, including misspelt words like 'ellaborate', 'convinience', 'groccery', 'shppoing', and 'hustel'. Furthermore, word choices and collocations are sometimes unnatural, such as 'ran out their regular customers' instead of losing regular customers, or 'all basics needs could be accessed' instead of daily essentials being purchased. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire to include less common vocabulary with greater precision, while significantly improving spelling accuracy and collocational awareness in professional or academic contexts.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause some difficulty for the reader. Issues include subject-verb agreement errors, such as 'small business ran out', missing or incorrect articles ('to look clearly and choose their stuff'), and prepositions inside grammatical patterns ('take this in consideration' instead of into consideration). Punctuation errors are also apparent, particularly with spaces placed immediately before commas or periods, as seen in 'cities.I would' and 'clothing ,sports'. Although some complex sentences are attempted, the control over tense consistency and clause structures remains weak. To improve, the writer should focus on mastering basic sentence mechanics, reducing frequent structural errors, and incorporating a wider variety of accurate complex sentence forms.
