Student answer (Band 6.5)

These days, trend of internet shopping is increasing and it is believed that it will be responsible of shutting down all shops available in towns and urban areas. This essay disagrees with this statement because of trust issues online, frauds, and preference shopping offline.

To begin with, insecurity among individuals regarding online shopping is the prime reason that physical stores cannot be get closed. This is because some people do not trust the online products, and they prefer in-person examination before buying anything. Moreover, nowadays a lot of scams are going on online, which makes many people attentive before purchasing through websites. For instance, in many countries, enormous number of shopaholics got scammed by shopping sites when buying Iphone, therefore, they payed them but never received their item.

Furthermore, some masses prefer in-store shopping with their loved ones. This is mainly because they get the opportunity to spend quality of time with their family, friends, and relatives. To explain it, this activity offers them relaxation and energy after long working hours. As a result, tremendous increase in digital retail cannot shut down all physical stores in cities, as it is a leisure fun hobby for many. For example, when visiting stores anywhere in the cities those are overcrowded with the masses. So, the closure of offline shops is impossible.

In conclusion, it is clear that although trend of electronic retail is dramatically increasing day by day, I firmly believe that due to occuring scams, trust concerns, and people's priority towards traditional purchasing cannot be decreased. Thus, all shops will not be closed in cities and towns.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position throughout that disagrees with the premise that all physical shops will close. The ideas are extended and supported, such as discussing trust issues, online scams like the example involving the iPhone, and the social value of in-person shopping as a leisure activity. However, there is a slight tendency to overgeneralise in places, and some arguments lean on repetitive reasoning, which keeps the development at a solid level without reaching fully comprehensive exploration. The stance is maintained cohesively from the introduction to the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

There is a clear logical organisation and progression throughout the essay. The response is divided into logical paragraphs, with a discernible introduction, two distinct body paragraphs focusing on separate arguments, and a clear concluding summary. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the arguments. While referencing and paragraphing are generally handled well, some of the cohesive transitions feel slightly formulaic or mechanical, preventing the progression from feeling entirely seamless.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using topic-related terms such as 'shopaholics', 'in-person examination', and 'electronic retail'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, though this is sometimes accompanied by awkward word choice or slight collocation slips, such as 'preference shopping offline' instead of 'a preference for offline shopping'. Spelling is generally accurate, and vocabulary errors do not impede communication, allowing the reader to easily grasp the intended meaning throughout the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, there are noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include prepositional and article inaccuracies such as 'trend of internet shopping' missing an article, 'physical stores cannot be get closed' featuring incorrect passive verb morphology, and 'they payed them' containing a spelling-related verb error. While these errors occur with some frequency and restrict the score, they rarely impede overall communication.
