Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, online shopping has become increasingly popular among people. Some believe that this rapid growth can result in closing of all available stores in cities and towns. Although a large number of consumers prefer online shopping because it is convenient, I believe people will still prefer offline shopping as they may find it more authentic and reliable.

I largely disagree with the argument that a shift towards online shopping may lead to closing of all shops because there are still many buyers who get satisfaction by shopping offline. For instance, buyers can check the quality and suitable size of clothes while shopping from stores. In addition, several incidents have been seen where customers are tricked during online shopping. They sometimes do not receive the same product shown in the picture online. Moreover, there are many e-commerce website which do not offer convenient exchange and return process. Therefore, I think buyers who have experienced such incidents may still prefer offline shopping.

Additionally, there are various products which cannot be bought online such as food items and medicines especially the ones which have a limited shelf life and cannot be stored for a long time. Even though many e-commerce platforms namely Blinkit, Medicare offer raw food and medicines delivery, these are not as reliable as local stores. Many a times they deliver expired and spoilt items which ultimately contribute to several health issues. Thus, people may still prefer offline shopping and it cannot lead to the closing of physical stores in cities and towns.

In conclusion, I strongly disagree with the view that the growth of online shopping can lead to shut down of all shops as it cannot provide satisfactory services which are provided by physical shops and stores. Hence, offline shopping will still be preffered by customers due to its reliabilty and authenticity because it allows them to check quality and durability of products.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you largely disagree that online shopping will close all physical shops. You support this with relevant points about checking clothing in person, problems with online orders, and the need for reliable access to food and medicines. These examples address the question, and the conclusion restates your view. However, some claims are broad or not fully explained—for example, that food and medicines cannot be bought online, despite then naming delivery platforms, and that these services often provide expired or spoiled goods. Develop the distinction between online and local provision more carefully, and explain why physical shops will remain necessary rather than relying mainly on service problems. This would make the argument more fully extended and precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a conclusion. The ideas progress logically from the advantages of inspecting goods to the importance of local access to certain products. Linking expressions such as “For instance,” “In addition,” “Moreover,” and “Thus” help signal relationships between points. At times, however, the connections feel somewhat mechanical, and repeated references to “offline shopping” and “physical stores” make the progression less flexible. The second body paragraph also moves from products that are difficult to buy online to claims about unreliable delivery without fully explaining the link. Use clearer referencing and vary transitions, while making each paragraph’s central point and supporting explanation connect more tightly.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “convenient,” “authentic,” “reliable,” “shelf life,” and “e-commerce platforms.” These choices communicate your ideas clearly, and some topic-specific language helps make the examples relevant. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision, such as “get satisfaction by shopping offline,” “contribute to several health issues,” and “closing of all available stores.” Spelling errors in “preffered” and “reliabilty” also affect the overall control of vocabulary. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise wording would also help avoid broad claims, particularly when discussing the reliability of online delivery services.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “because it is convenient” and “where customers are tricked,” as well as a concession structure beginning “Although.” Most sentences are understandable, and errors rarely obstruct your meaning. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain: “a large number of consumers prefer” is followed by “it is convenient” with an unclear reference, “several e-commerce website” needs a plural noun, and “Many a times” is not a correct construction. The sentence about food items and medicines also needs clearer punctuation and structure. Review subject–verb agreement, singular and plural forms, and sentence boundaries, while continuing to use varied complex structures.
