Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary era, the trend of doing online shopping is increasing day by day. But I think doing shopping in shops and online shopping has their separate benefits. Online shopping can not completely replace in person shopping.

On the one hand, with the sophistication in the techonlogy. Online shopping becomes much popular as it not only save people's time but also save their money. Moreover, online shopping is very easy to do and can be done in a few seconds. For example, If people wants to buy an item, they does not need to go to store in person. They can quickly place an order from their phone while on work. Conversely, if they are going to supermarket they may end up buying the thing unnecessarily ,which could ultimately the wastage of money.

On the other hand, doing shopping while going in shops has their own benefits. Firstly, people can get exact the same item what they are looking for after going in shops, while in online shopping sometimes people are not satisfied with the product. Secondly, in online shopping if the product is coming from different country it will take 2 weeks, which is not the case in person shopping. Therefore, people can get the product on the same day.

In conclusion, although online shopping is considering more trending in this era, when it comes to save time and money, but doing shopping in stores have their own advantages ranging from getting right product and on time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you disagree that online shopping will eliminate physical shops, and you address benefits of both ways of shopping. The examples about ordering by phone and receiving a product on the same day are relevant. However, some points are only briefly explained: the claim that shopping in person helps people find the exact item, for instance, would be stronger with a specific example or explanation. The supermarket point is also unclear because it suggests in-person shopping can cause unnecessary purchases, without showing how this supports your overall argument. The response is one word below the required minimum, so ensure future answers meet the stated length.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting benefits, and a conclusion. The progression from online shopping to in-store shopping is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This already shows sound organisation, but some links between ideas are not fully clear. In particular, “Conversely” introduces the supermarket example, although the relationship to the preceding point about saving money is confusing. The conclusion also repeats the main contrast rather than drawing the ideas together. Make connections between examples and your position more explicit, and use referencing and transitions less mechanically.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to discuss the topic, including “sophistication,” “replace,” “unnecessarily,” and “advantages.” The meaning is generally understandable, but several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which limits precision. For example, “doing shopping” is repeated where “shopping” or “shopping in stores” would sound more natural, and “the wastage of money” is an awkward phrase. There is also a spelling error in “techonlogy.” Aim to use common topic vocabulary accurately before reaching for more elaborate expressions. More precise phrases for delivery, product choice, and consumer spending would help you express your comparisons more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “although” and a relative clause beginning “which.” Most of your meaning can be followed, but some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction remain. For example, “Online shopping … not only save” needs subject–verb agreement, while “If people wants … they does not need” contains mismatched subject and verb forms. The opening fragment, “On the one hand, with the sophistication in the techonlogy,” also needs to be joined to a complete clause. Check each sentence for a clear subject and finite verb, and review agreement and article use when editing.
