Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that cybershopping in the future leads to shutdown of physical stores. Although I agree that this might happen in upcoming time, elderly people still choose physical stores over the internet shopping.

To initiate, online stores often sell products on cheaper rates because they do not acuire large mall or shops, which allows them to save rental investment and sell items on low rates. Due to this, individuals might completely shift on these stores in the future. For example, last year, my friend bought a shirt for only 30 cad, that same piece of cloth was available on a shop for 50 cad. This huge difference in prices is attracting people to virtual shopping.

In addition to this, digital stores are more accessible, with the help of mobile phones users can easily browers products and add into thier carts. Moreover, people can order products from almost anywhere in the world without visiting there physically. Beacause of this, people can not only save time, but also money for travel. For instance, these days many youngsters pruchasing mobile phones online from different countries after comparing rates.

However, for senior citizens physical stores will play essential role because of limited technological experience. They may feel a sense of insecurity while ordering from digital platforms. Furthermore, for a last few decades old pople are using conventional methods of shopping, and this suden shift they may not accept. For example, for an old individual it is more convenient to purchase cloths from his favourite cloths becuase they can bagain with shopkeeper.

In conclusion, undoubtedly, online shopping platforms will reduce sales of physical shopping centers and may lead to closing. Conversely, many eldely individual still prefer them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you agree that online shopping may cause physical shops to close, while recognising that older people may continue to use them. The two advantages—lower prices and convenience—are relevant, and the examples about the shirt price and buying phones internationally help illustrate them. The counterargument about seniors’ familiarity and concerns with online platforms also addresses the other side of the issue. However, the response does not fully resolve the tension between agreeing that shops will close and saying that many older people will still prefer them. Some points, particularly why this preference would keep shops open, need fuller explanation. A more precise conclusion and deeper development of the likely scale of closures would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs supporting online shopping, a contrasting paragraph about older customers, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally have clear central purposes, and signposts such as “In addition to this” and “However” make the progression easy to follow. The examples are placed near the ideas they support. At times, though, linking is somewhat mechanical, with repeated openings such as “Because of this” and “For example.” Some references are also unclear: “these stores” could refer to online stores, while “them” in the conclusion could refer to physical shops or shopping platforms. To move further, vary the transitions and make pronoun references explicit, while connecting the counterargument more directly to your overall position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “cybershopping,” “digital platforms,” “accessible,” “conventional methods,” and “sense of insecurity.” This allows you to discuss price, convenience, and customer habits. However, several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “acuire,” “browers,” “thier,” “Beacause,” and “eldely.” Some combinations are also unnatural, including “sell products on cheaper rates,” “shift on these stores,” and “purchase cloths from his favourite cloths.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main ideas, but they make the expression less fluent. Focus on accurate spelling and natural collocations, and choose precise terms such as “physical shops” rather than varying labels in ways that may confuse the reference.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concession in “Although I agree…” and a reason clause beginning “because.” Most sentences communicate their main meaning, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “the future leads to shutdown” needs a more suitable verb form, and “people can not only save time, but also money for travel” has an awkward parallel construction. Articles and agreement are also inconsistent, as in “will play essential role” and “many eldely individual still prefer them.” The sentence beginning “Furthermore, for a last few decades…” is difficult to control and would be clearer if divided or recast. Practise accurate articles, plural forms, verb patterns, and parallel structures while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
